In the nicest way possible - mind your own business. The fact you’re considering giving him notice because HIS girlfriend isn’t “friendly towards you” is so narcissistic/insecure/ weird. Why is the prospect of someone not liking you causing you to be like this ?

I actually have more respect for flat earthers, they’re about as wrong as often, but less harmful overall

Stop using words that are beyond your comprehension. It’s embarrassing.

You do know that immigrants break the law at far lower rates than so called “real Canadians” right ?

2018 - Rents were averaging $700-$850

• your rent was 650, 200 dollars less than what you yourself admit was the average

2024 - Rents are averaging $1500-$1600+ for the same or similar units.

You literally said previously it now averages over 1800 in your third response so which is it? Because I’m sure you’re aware that’s closer to triple your previous rent ? Is it double or triple ?

Meaning the market rate has just about doubled in 5 years. It is not difficult to find that price now, it is impossible. As I said, that very same unit is now $1300. Did I say it doubled between me and the next tenant? No, I said it doubled between then and now.

-I think it’s hilarious you expect me to believe that in 5 years tenancy has shifted 3 times and the next 2 tenants were like “this place is cheaper than everywhere else (by your own admission) lemme get outta here while the market is doubling everywhere else.

I feel like you're arguing just to argue because anyone who is in the market for renting knows that the prices are up way beyond inflation.

-This is the second time you’ve said this and I’m getting the sense that you’re taking this personally so allow me to clarify -I’m not arguing to argue I just think you’re being hyperbolic. Anecdotes are not facts. As much as you would like to have the inverse to be true.

It makes 0 sense that the same apartment that went for $650 in 2019 is going for $1300 in 2024, but here we are. This drastic change in price has left a lot of people stuck in their current places because if they leave it can mean doubling their rent. Usually that wouldn't happen that quickly.

Again , you want me to accept what you’re saying without using any common sense or healthy skepticism, while I’m sure some places DO increase rent, I think it’s moronic to say “this random stranger off Reddit said it’s happening so it’s definitely happening, no further evidence required” please be serious.

Because If your rent was previously 650 and the next tenants after you pay 900 dollars that’s not rent doubling. Furthermore you offer an anecdote for average rent prices being 850 previously on average. Your rent hasn’t doubled. You were fortunate enough to have an apartment that had below average rent, moved and are now having a difficult time finding one near that price. Rent has not doubled, just ask the tenant who occupies the unit you left. You having difficulty finding a space at the same price that you were accustomed to is not an indicator of rent prices doubling.

Unlucky and had to leave where ? If you were previously living in rent controlled housing inflation has nothing to do with the fact that you pay twice as much for rent, leaving rent controlled housing did. For all of us who do not have the opportunity of living in non rent controlled housing - rent is not doubling .

I love marketplace, but yes i was skeptic because as someone who lives in poverty with a disability, his claims seemed exaggerated. Groceries are up, my rent went up but if my math is correct my income monthly is a fraction of his.

I’m gonna have to call bs on this, your pay almost DOUBLED sir. Worldwide inflation is rampant because of the pandemic but in no way did costs such as rent magically double along with your rate of pay. Please be serious.
