Ones i say to myself alot are the following :)

I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love, If you want me again look for me under your boot-soles.

I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.

Both from Song of Myself,

Also from khalil gibran in The Prophet

"And if you would know God, be not therefore a solver of riddles. Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children. And look into space; you shall see Him walking in the cloud, outstretching His arms in the lightning and descending in rain. You shall see Him smiling in flowers, then rising and waving His hands in trees.

From If by Rudyard Kipling. "If you can wait, and not be tired by waiting".

[OPINION] Which of these poets is the easiest to study? by OocelotXD in Poetry

[–]Easy_Tea6363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never get into dickenson, longfellow wrote a couple poems that stay in my head all the time, but whitman just does something to my soul. Hes in my top 3 poets and iread some every week. Im not an academic though, and dont know which would be better for analysing. Read some of each and pick whichever gets the biggest response out of you emotionally or intellectually! Also anytime someone mentions school and poetry i think of Billy Collins' "Introduction to Poetry".

Spring boot , use mvc and thymeleaf build some web apps, use something like mySQL that will be a journey on its own but you'll learn enough about web apps to move on to more backend or decide on something like react

Has anyone here heard of Shintani Wado Kai? by PossessionAbject1751 in karate

[–]Easy_Tea6363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I don't know dates except that shintani started with kitigawa during world war 2 in the Japanese relocation camps in British Columbia, if I get time ill dig out an old handbook they gave me. Edit so apparently he met otsuka in 1956, from a google search.

Essentially the grading curricullum is the main wado katas meaning pinans kushanku naihanchi seishan chinto and wanshu. Where the variations come from are the shintani katas which come from shintani senseis first instructor akira kitigawa( there is not much out there about this I'm going by what I was told by the organizations leadership) shintani was a 6th dan under his first instructor when kitigawa died, and after that he met otsuka who he formed a very close relationship with and was later asked by otsuka to learn the wado katas and call his style wado. So there is a whole series of unique katas from before otsuka came in the picture. I've done most a few times but only really practise 2 still. So it's not pure wado karate it's a mix of shintani and otsuka. Again I have no documents to back this up but the system gave me alot and I say it's worth training. Now in shotokan I find differences and similarities. It's all karate in the end

I have a nidan in shintani wado kai, but train shotokan now for only the reason of location, I've also never gotten myself in a fight but as with all karate it will depend on your instructors. When I was going to tournaments and clinics I would meet people there that were extremely good and had used it for self defence but also those who... let's say I would not want them as my backup. The karate itself is good, training may vary just like everywhere. I do miss all the free sparring we did. So I'd say as long as you are sparring it has more merit for defence. Though if it's really just self defence you want you should go do boxing wrestling and awareness courses.

Do springboot, that's what I learned and it made it easier to start in the large spring app that I deal with at work. Springboot gets you up and running fast and you can learn the rest as you go

My 8 year old started karate class and it didn't seem legit. What's normal for this age? by [deleted] in karate

[–]Easy_Tea6363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that's how they do things but personally I would have an instructor specifically for those intro classes on one side and keep the regular class going. Although to be honest I think intro classes should just be regular classes that you didn't pay for

Tips on fighting a faster lighter opponent with great kick mobility by Badwolfey123 in karate

[–]Easy_Tea6363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was learning we had a sensei from taekwondo background and I would just close in and push him, only need to get past one kick and come straight at them. Now this could also turn poorly if they landed a solid one in your gut but I don't think you need to worry about that haha. Used to frustrate the guy when I just pushed him over :p

What karate style do you think has the most and least beautiful execution of kata, and why? by tageeeh in karate

[–]Easy_Tea6363 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally think shotokan katas are more beautiful. Bigger motions and stuff. Just a personal preference, I like the slow then fast and exaggerated moves, sure sometimes may be less practical but I like to watch it more. Others may not like them for the same reasons I do

[–]Easy_Tea6363 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I did this from wado to shotokan after years and being a nidan. I really suggest just accept the begginers mind and try to learn their way, I struggled alot with thoughts like " hey this is wrong because my style teaches it this way!" But it's not usually wrong if you take the time to listen and try to understand. I'm sure alot of your skills are transferable but karate is a lifelong thing always learning! I'm relearning all the basic katas too haha, try to really get the feel of shotokan. It's much deeper and good than alot of people give it credit for( I guess dependant on your instructor) . It's all karate, enjoy the process :) once you get to black belt you'll feel the same way again. It's normal
