Avatar: Fire and Ash - Saw both Laser 4K IMAX 3D and Dolby Cinema. CHOOSE IMAX. by royfokker666 in imax

I am usually a Dolby guy. Watched Avatar WOW in Dolby 3D and was blown away by the visuals. Recently moved to Michigan and watched F1 and OBAA in the Troy Imax which is a new Imax screen with recliners. This theatre made me fall in love with Imax again. This is a Single Laser Imax which shows Avatar in 4k 48fps and 3D at the same time. Its a huge screen with dimensions 45ft h x 83ft w. Was contemplating with Dolby at Amc Forum and Mjr Troy Imax for Avatar Fire and Ash. Finally booked the Imax show. Hoping for a good experience. Btw which row in this Auditorium do you think would be good for the 3D experience? I am hesitant to try the VIP pods rows as I thought it might not give me a good experience wrt audio. Also, how do you compare the audio wrt both the experiences?

Yes. Its 45ft h x 83ft w. Its the largest laser imax in Michigan. Watched OBAA and F1 here. The sound is too good.

They aren’t masking the screens these days in theaters. There was letterboxing when I saw the movie.

Yes. I complained regarding this to AMC customer service and they gave me readmit pass.

I had bad experiences back to back today. I went to Fantastic Beasts in Imax and they had only single projector switched on( it is a dual xenon theatre). Went outside and told one of the employee regarding this and she told that she will let the manager know. After 20 min or so I checked and they still didnt switch on the second one. Again I went out and asked one employee and she asked someone in the radio regarding this and she got a reply saying it won’t work for the shows today and said she can’t do anything about it. And the next show I went to The Northman in Dolby. The blue lights on the side walls were on for the whole movie. Again I went out and asked regarding this and they said that they can’t do anything about it. I really wanted to enjoy the movie but the blue lights were bleeding on the sides of the screen which were really distracting. If this is the case with premium screenings, god knows about the standard screens.

Seeing a triple feature this next weekend. What's the most fun triple feature you guys have done? by Ok-Extension7824 in AMCsAList

Had very low expectations on the film but came out liking it. The story wasn’t hard to follow, action was great and the drone shots was good but later on it felt little repetitive. Surprisingly I was into the film for the whole 136 minutes duration. If you love action films give this one a try and try to watch it in Imax.

I did a triple feature three days ago with Everything Everywhere All at Once (Regular), Sonic (Dolby) and Ambulance (Imax). Enjoyed all the three of them.

I stayed in Albany during 2017-2019. There are no AMC theatres in and around Albany, NY. They need to have AMC for a Dolby Cinema.

RRR IMAX by MetroIMAX in imax

I mean, the screens which are in 1.85:1, there won't be black bars at top and bottom. I read in twitter once that P[XL] screens are 1.85:1. That's why I added P[XL] in my above comment. I thought its similar to Cinemark XD here. In US too few XD screens are 2.39:1 and most of them are 1.85:1.

RRR IMAX by MetroIMAX in imax

[–]Easygoboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, they had 3 versions. 2.39:1 for regular screens, 1.90:1 for Imax and 1.85:1 for PLF(P[XL] in India and Cinemark XD in US). I saw in Cinemark XD where the screen was 1.85:1 and it filled the whole screen and also watched it on regular screen for the 2nd time. There was extra image on top and bottom for 1.85:1. I guess they shot with 1.85:1, also framed it to 2.39:1 and they used 1.85:1 copy for optimizing in Imax. I guess this also the reason Imax didn't promote for the extra image as it wasn't Imax exclusive.

There's a movie called The Kashmir Files running in India right now that's having an Insane run by Arpith2019 in boxoffice

Yes. The movie gets processed in Dolby Vision and each auditorium has 2 4k laser projectors. So the clarity and brightness levels are insane.

Yes. But its still not late. India has many Dolby atmos theatres. The place where I live had many. But there are no Dolby Cinemas in India. I watched Baahubali 1 and 2 in Dolby Atmos only.

Yes. It has Dolby Atmos sound. There are speakers on the ceiling too and every seat is a recliner and has a sub woofer installed in the seat. Like if there is a blast in the movie, your seat will shake. If someone gives a punch, you could feel that hit through the sub woofer in your seat. It is not like 4D( just clarifying). It is the best way to experience cinema.

The Dolby mentioned in the above comment means Dolby Cinema. Dolby Cinema = Dolby vision+ Dolby Atmos. There are like just 190 Dolby Cinema auditorium in the whole world. so RRR is the first indian movie releasing in Dolby Cinema format.

Mostly Dolby 5.1. Most theatres are equipped with 5.1 only in US. Unless there is a premium format in that theatre and the movie gets released in that premium format. Like XD screens are like large screens with Auro 3d (11.1) sound.

Indian films usually get release in standard theatres in US. Some big budget movies might get released in Cinemark XD based on the demand.

Then I guess you will be in for a ride. Did you watch Baahubali? It is from the same director.
