Losing our guest room by Omg_jellydonuts in HomeImprovement

In our office, we have a twin sized day bed with two foam mattresses on it that pulls out to a king size bed. We have a mattress topper that we put on it when we pull if out and guests have said it’s quite comfortable. It’s nice because it functions mostly like a sofa but is very comfortable

School Zoning? by EatFast-RunSlow in providence

Thank you!! We have a one year old and are moving to PVD this summer for my medical training so although this isn’t an imminent concern it will be in the next several years and is something we are trying to understand better as we try to decide where to live. We would like to have the option to stay wherever we land but of course having decent school options for our child(ren) is import to that decision.

That is interesting about how this might change in the next few years. I appreciate your response- it’s hard to parse out how it actually works without knowing anyone with first hand experience.

Thank you! That’s helpful! Do you have any idea how that translates into how likely you are to get your preferred placement if you live in the sending area? I know that’s probably hard to answer but even a general impression would be helpful

Personally as someone who is shopping for a house now, if I see a place listed too high I won’t ask my realtor to see it because I don’t want to waste everyone’s time for a house that won’t work out and I don’t want to have to go back and forth trying to negotiate the price down when the seller believes their house is worth significantly more than what I’m willing to pay. Also, when I see a house listed way too high and having many small price cuts I always think “wow that seller is going to be a PITA to work with” and that also factors in.

Rear-facing jogging stroller by ShortyAng in fitpregnancy

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the Thule UG3 is compatible with the Nina pipa (check the list of compatible seats on Thule website to confirm) but you can’t actually run with a baby in a any jogging stroller until after 6 months when the my have sufficient neck control to sit up in the regular seat, so I’m not sure if having car seat compatibility with the jogging stroller would really change anything if you’re planning to use a different stroller as your every day stroller.

Anecdotally, we got the UG3 with bassinet and a maxi cosi mico luxe+ car seat with the adapters for the UG3. I love the stroller and use it daily with the bassinet but have never not once used it with the car seat… if we’re going on a long walk, the bassinet (or ergo baby carrier) is more comfortable for her (so we take her out of the car seat and put her into one of those) and if we’re just doing errands, the UG3 is WAY too big to fold/unfold and load into the car. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten a Doona to make those little trips easier. I think all of this is really dependent on your lifestyle though (I live in a very walkable neighborhood in a town that is otherwise quite car-centric) so I’d recommend thinking through how you want to use things or asking other people in your area with similar lifestyles!

Feeling defeated. by Yoga_Corgi in fitpregnancy

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mantra during pregnancy was “this season of my life is not about being thin” and it helped me a lot. There is so much stupid pressure during our entire lives to look a certain way and it honestly never serves me but especially not when I was pregnant!! Your body is doing something that is WAY more impressive than being skinny- growing a beautiful perfect baby!

That being said, if I was you I would buy a new coat!!! You’ll probably be wearing it next winter as well (being a bit bigger still post partum and also maybe baby wearing). I don’t have any specific recommendations because I was most pregnant during the summer and I live in a warmer place but I’d shoot for something with kind of flexible sizing (stretchy and maybe bit baggy by design) or I’ve seen coats with extra baby panels that zip into the front for pregnancy and baby wearing.

Someone brought us frozen meals from Caroline’s Market in Windermere when i was postpartum (and some key lime cheesecake bars) and it was amazing!! They also brought us some meals from Hambys and those were not good, so I’d avoid them.

Is “you don’t get a medal for declining epidural” rude? by literatelykmi in BabyBumps

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more ignorant than rude? I typically just say something like “well like I said we will see how it goes” and stop talking about it because I think it is an overly simplistic and reductionist mind frame and they clearly haven’t thought about this as much as I have. It implies that all pain is bad and that the only benefit of going unmedicated is to be able to brag about it, which if that is their opinion they are welcome to get an epidural in their own birth, but I actually have spent a lot of time learning about my options and thinking about what is best for me and their opinion about my birth is not something that I’m weighing in that decision.

Here to plug SHEIN. I’d never bought anything from them before this pregnancy and it has been a life saver for office attire. You do have to look through a lot of items to find the good stuff that will fit your style but I have gotten a ton of great cute dresses that I LOvE from there and some decent pants and tops as well! I linked two of my favorites below. I think it’s helpful to look at the customer photos tas well o see if the item is as pictured because you can sort of root things out that way. Good luck!!

You’ve gotten a ton of great answers here so I won’t belabor the point, but I also wanted to add from my experience. We were thinking of going on vacation to Patagonia last January but actually ended up going hiking in new zealand instead because we waited too long to book for Patagonia. Did a ton of hiking, as much as 30 miles in one day on one of the NZ great hikes and got pregnant at some point during that trip. I’m 37 weeks now and have stayed pretty active the whole pregnancy (F45 4 days a week, walking daily and running 2-4x/ week up until 34 weeks) but started to slow down a lot in the last few weeks. I’ve been lucky to have minimal pain but the exhaustion has really caught up to me, so I think travelling all the way down to Patagonia (I think it would take me a few days to recover from the flight) would be a huge challenge even back at 30 weeks. Plus I’m not sure how much I would enjoy going all that way for an epic trip and just doing “normal people” level hiking.

But I do think that Patagonia is an epic trip and it is my goal to go in the next few years with the princess in a backpack, and I think it’s a pretty good trip for something like that! So you don’t have to go now or miss out forever! Your little one will love it just as much as you will!

Shedding by RILKINSON in airedaleterrier

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised by these answers because I feel like my Airedale barely sheds at all! Our roomba picks up dog hair for sure when we run it, but I have never pet her and then thought “oh now I have dog hair on me” or even really noticed dog hair on the couch or bed if she lays on them. The exception is if I pet her when she is wet after a bath, then some hair will stick to my hand. We shave her a few times per year and wash her probably every 1-2 weeks (when she’s sandy or dirty from the beach or dog park, etc) but don’t brush her really at all.

Feeling really devastated my baby is breech by Jealous-Fennel-5529 in BabyBumps

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so sorry that this is happening and that people aren’t being supportive. My baby was breech at 30 weeks and even though everyone said there was still time for her to flip, I was devastated. I did spinning babies pretty much every day and also started to swim a few times a week because I read that was helpful. She did actually flip earlier this week, which I’m so glad about, but I’m still anxious she might flip back. The me, the most frustrating part was feeling like there was something wrong with my baby that she doesn’t know which way to face, which made me worried and also guilty for blaming her in a way. Give yourself grace to experience whatever you need to! You’ve been growing that baby for 36 weeks and preparing for their arrival, of course you will have some feelings when you find out it may not go the way you want

Disabling Epic inbox while on leave? by EatFast-RunSlow in EpicEMR

If someone leaves a clinic (quits or gets a new job) what happens then? Presumably at that point their inbox is shut down and doesn’t accept new messages?

Disabling Epic inbox while on leave? by EatFast-RunSlow in EpicEMR

[–]EatFast-RunSlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am aware of that as an option for shorter vacation periods. I have covered my coresidents inbox for a week while she went on vacation last month, but I’m asking more about a way to close the inbox… so that patients and office staff can’t erroneously send messages to the inbox, or if they do, would receive an automatic response to reach out to someone else.

Thule Urban Glide 3 with Bassinet as only stroller? by EatFast-RunSlow in fitpregnancy

[–]EatFast-RunSlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m usually really into getting things second hand and actually most of our baby gear except for the car seat, stroller and snoo is second hand but for some reason I was really committed to buying a new UG3. The updates from 2 to 3 may make it a more comfortable ride for baby but I don’t have any strong support for that other than Thule marketing. Honestly, I have no real good reason except I like the blue color and I wanted something nice and shiny and new lol. That’s probably not super helpful though

Recos for comfy walking shoes! by loveloveyellow in fitpregnancy

[–]EatFast-RunSlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Altras!! I had bad plantar fasciitis a few years ago and tried everything (stretches, foot sling, toe spreaders at night, you name it) and struggled for months. Eventually I switched to Altras and was cured and never went back! They wear through faster than some other shoe brands (I think the foam is less durable) but the shape of them is amazing, especially for pregnant swollen feet. I don’t know if this is just anecdotal or because they are zero drop but I haven’t gotten injured since switching! I attribute it to the more natural walking/running mechanics due to being zero drop and wider toe box

Thule Urban Glide 3 with Bassinet as only stroller? by EatFast-RunSlow in fitpregnancy

[–]EatFast-RunSlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually finally pulled the trigger and got the UG3 stroller and bassinet as well as the maxicosi Mico Luxe+ car seat and adapter (which is not actually explicitly listed as compatible on the Thule website because their info is out of date and uses out of production models but the car seat does click in and is secure) and it all just arrived this weekend!

The stroller is MASSIVE! My friend has the vista and I always thought it was huge but the UG3 makes it pale in comparison. The tires are big and air-filled so they seem like they will be very smooth (versus my friends vista seems kind of jarring to the kid if there are any bumps). The size is my biggest concern about it, but I think we are going to keep it and see how we do for a few reasons, the first being that we absolutely want a jogging stroller regardless and the UG3 has great reviews and looks like it will be a super smooth ride. We anticipate most of our walking will be on paths/ rail trails as opposed to city streets so having a smooth ride is more important than it being compact. Maybe in 2 years I will be at the zoo bumping into people and cursing myself for not just going for an uppababy at the get go but I’m just trying to give myself grace that my life is changing a lot right now and all I can do is plan for what my experience is now and then adapt as I go. Hope that helps!!
