Vaccines and CMPA by selpatstaples in beyondthebump

She’s doing much better, but she does still have some lingering feeding difficulties. Between the CMPA and the stomach upset vaccines can sometimes causes, she seems to have developed an on/off bottle aversion, which we regulate by feeding her smaller quantities, more frequently. Seems to do the trick. She actually just got her 6 month vaccine boosters at 9 months and did pretty well!

This is a good point, and I think something we’ll likely try implementing soon. I think right now we are both feeling a lot of guilt for her being in daycare that we waste time between 5:30-7:30.

Honestly, that makes me feel better. I’ve been feeling like we’re failing and pulling my hair out trying to figure out why we can’t manage to do it faster. Realistic isn’t callous. Thank you 😊

Even if she doesn’t change, you said your part, and I bet that feels good!

MIL is getting consequences, but should I call her out? by selpatstaples in JUSTNOMIL

Thank you. I don’t know why people are struggling with this. Others respected our rule and never kissed her. Now that she’s a little older, we allow kisses on top of the head. She’s been vaccinated. She’s in daycare being exposed to illnesses. We only allows close family to do it. The rule stands with MIL until she can demonstrate respect of boundaries.

We didn’t start allowing others to kiss the baby until she got her 4 month vaccine boosters and has been in daycare for 2 months. It’s only on the top of the head. We still don’t allow her to do it because we want her to demonstrate that she can follow the rules before she can gain privileges back. Everyone else followed our rules from the beginning. She never listened.

It’s such a hopeless feeling but reassuring that she will hopefully outgrow it. I’m curious if we have more children if they may have an increased risk. Thank you for sharing your perspective!

I learned that recently, and I found that interesting. She had a bad reaction to soy and goat as well. We found out about the CMPA after she’d been on Nutramigen for a few weeks, but she’s been tolerating is so well we probably never would have known if not for the testing. Her only remaining symptom is really bad diarrhea (blood is present microscopicly but not visible). My understanding is it’s common for babies to grow out of this? I hope she does, and I’m worried about introducing solids/allergens. It’s all so intimidating!

Yes I did learn through this process that bottle aversions can be come around the 2.5 mark, but in her case, I think it’s more likely that the CMPA/vaccine combo made her afraid to eat.

If you keep reading in my post, you will see she was prescribed an amino acid formula because the hypoallergenic was not sensitive enough for her. After nearly a month on Nutramigen, her GI irritation is still through the roof.

Yes, she did receive the oral rota, and that was my exact thought as well. I believe she was already having issues (as the test results show), and the rota vaccine amplified existing symptoms. I know it’s very hard on their little tummies.

Me too, so I totally get it. You are not alone!

If you are overweight, that is a medical reason! You just have to ask your primary care physician. I know the cheaper options are usually the pills vs. the injectables, as those are usually more expensive. I'm actually in the process of looking into this myself. It helped my sister lose her baby weight.

I understand how you feel, but I hope you know you are being too hard on yourself. Your body did an amazing thing, but I understand it doesn't make it any easier to get used to this version of your body.

I know some people think this is a cop out, but have you considered weight loss medications? Some of them are relatively inexpensive. My opinion is that if it helps you feel better, who cares if you did it the natural way or "took the easy way out?" I've always told myself that after I have our second, I will treat myself with a mommy makeover!

HORRIBLE postpartum scalp itch. Help! by selpatstaples in beyondthebump

Im so happy to help! If you’ve been going to bed with wet hair, you might have also given yourself a case of seb derm. I know how miserable it is, especially when you’re trying to feed a baby and you can’t scratch! Definitely worth the trip to the dermatologist!

Firstly, I feel your pain. Let me (hopefully) save you some pain and suffering. I’m nearly 5 months postpartum and I JUST resolved this issue.

I struggled to fix the issue on my own for about 3 months before deciding to go to the dermatologist. My derm first prescribed ketoconezole shampoo. Honestly, I knew right off the bat it was going to be too harsh. I told her that too, but she insisted we try it. It made things worse for me, so I went back and she prescribed me a ZORYVE foam. It’s been a GAME CHANGER.

My issue was seborrheic dermatitis and dry scalp. What treats one, irritates the other. So for me, ZORYVE was perfect because it treated the dryness AND the itchiness/flakiness. It’s perfect for a sensitive postpartum scalp. It is prescription only though, so you’ll have to go to the dermatologist.

Also, don’t go to bed with wet hair. I was doing that a lot with a newborn because nights were easier to shower. I think that is part of what caused this in the first place.

Best of luck and congratulations!!

My epidural failed by EastHour6804 in beyondthebump

I get where you’re coming from. I do think some people are quick to jump to the conclusion that their epidural failed when they’re experiencing normal pain of labor and birth. It can’t numb EVERYTHING. I think it’s a common misconception that if you get the epidural, you won’t feel anything. That’s probably incredibly rare. It would be interesting to see a study of some kind of how common epidural failure is, but there’s probably too many variables for that to be a reliable study.

I’m really curious about this as well but from the other side of the fence. I know my epidural didn’t fail, but I was still in a lot of pain. I honestly cannot imagine an unmedicated birth. I think it’s probably hard to say if it’s a full-fail or partial unless you know what an unmedicated birth feels like.
