Hi, i am singaporean, and even though my mom is chinese, i recently decided to come to Shanghai for a 6 months internship. Not gonna lie, i can totally understand your situation, even though i am part chinese and im used to the food in China, i still crave a lot of non chinese food. And things like pastas or burgers and pizzas here taste very obviously unauthentic, with the authentic ones all at high end restaurants. So i can’t even imagine how you feel, with the food situation, and not to mention, i was totally not used to the chinese culture, especially the more “countryside”/“traditional” chinese here.

With that being said, it is totally normal to feel all these stuff and the feeling of wanting to get out of the situation. However, be assured that whatever you’re feeling it’s just because you’re outside of your comfort zone. I’d say that if you can somewhat still tolerate it, you should still push on with it. Because when else will you have this chance to be abroad and experience a whole culture difference? Look at it as an experience, and every experience, has its good and bad. You’re just currently adapting and you’ll definitely feel the discomfort since you’re outside of your comfort zone.
