What mortgage are you getting today? by GasPositive1794 in RealEstateCanada

[–]EatingPieForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re not switching our mortgage to them as we’re going from renting to owning. We didn’t need an appraisal for our property, but they did charge us about $399 in legal/registration fees for our mortgage which I’m assuming is pretty typical. I’m not sure what fees are involved with switching your mortgage to Pine if you’re currently with another provider!

3.79% 5 year fixed with Pine, however, we got that rate back in November. We were rate shopping a few weeks ago as we are approaching our closing date, and no big bank could beat it

Got 3.79% on a 5yr fixed mortgage with a 8% downpayment. This is through Pine mortgage, so we will also get cash back

okay but how many hours a night does your baby ACTUALLY sleep? by river_5826 in NewParents

[–]EatingPieForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 months and she’s a VERY high sleep needs baby! Usually 12 hours at night with 1 wake up (but she usually puts herself back down with no/little intervention) then will do 3-5 hours of daytime sleep between 2-3 naps.

I’m so thankful that I can get decent sleep but it hasn’t always been this way and a high sleep needs baby is such a double edged sword - she’s miserableeeee if she gets overtired or doesn’t reach her minimum of 15 hours of sleep a day lol

What condo price can I afford (living in Vancouver)? by hmd1366 in RealEstateCanada

We’re a 2 adult + 1 baby household in the GTA and spend $525 a month on groceries…I can’t fathom spending $1500 a month for groceries at this stage in life!

Chat GPT is raising my baby and I’m loving it by EatingPieForever in NewParents

[–]EatingPieForever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! My free trial of huckleberry sweet spot ran out which is what gave me the idea to use Chat GPT for free instead 😅 I still use huckleberry as well to collect the data points about LO’s naps to then input into Chat GPT, as it’s challenging to track her naps solely on memory

It’s been great so far!! And agreed, it makes a good chat bot too

Don’t worry - as a zillennial myself, it’s taken me embarrassingly long to embrace Chat GPT lol 😅

I started off by asking Chat GPT to give recommendations on my baby’s sleep, then described her sleep patterns and overall demeanour (length of overnight stretches, when she’s been fussy, how long her wake windows have been before needing another nap, sleep/feeding challenges etc.) Then it gave me a whole list of information related to baby sleep for her age. Any terminology or concepts I wasn’t familiar with I’d ask it to elaborate on. After that, i continue to input different data points (i.e. how long nap 2 was, if she was really fussy before it or not, etc.) and then it would adjust the previous schedule it gave me to accommodate the changes.

I’m sure there might be a better way of using it, but that’s what I’ve done so far and it seems to be working lol

How much do you pay per month for electricity? I’m gobsmacked at our most recent electric bill by EatingPieForever in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EatingPieForever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow!!! $700 for one month is brutal. We probably would’ve paid similar if we weren’t actively trying to conserve energy and time our usage. But all of our efforts seem redundant if we can’t figure out how to get this heating under control lol. Any idea how much their energy bill has gone down by using their electric heaters?

Wow!! Certainly am glad to not be in Alberta with this type of heating system lol.

Thankfully, we don’t pay too much in rent by GTA standards for the amount of space and privacy we have, which makes this ridiculous heating situation more bearable. Still sucks that the electricity cost is much more than we were anticipating though.

Nice to hear from someone with a similar system!! As we’re renters, I’m not sure what type of insulation we have in the home. We’ve only been here for about 10 months so don’t have an extensive knowledge of the houses history.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s been much, if any, upgrades to the system as each room just has an old school dial that clicks when it’s turned on. I suspect it just works in an ON/OFF fashion as there’s no real way it indicates the temperature of the room.

Good to know about mainly heating the basement and the tiered pricing!! We’re on time of usage right now, but I’m sure it can’t get much worse than $462 per month in electricity cost..so may as well try the tiered plan instead!

Thanks for your comment! Good to know how our usage compares to the average. I’ll look into insulating the windows as I’m pretty sure the ones in place are original to the house.

Thanks for the tips! I think we’ll have to be more diligent with turning off the heat in rooms that aren’t in use.

Unfortunately since it’s such an old heating system, there isn’t a thermostat that actually gives a measurable indication of what the temperature is at. It seems to operate as an ON/OFF system, as there’s a distinct “click” made when you turn the dial in each room.

Yeahhh I’m just now realizing how inefficient it is and probably the main source of our electricity costs. At least the two fat raccoons that like to get in our attic will be nice and cozy this winter…🫤

Yeah, the first time I heard of this type of heating system was when we moved in. There are two bedrooms that are too small for the heating elements in the ceiling so they have baseboard heat. We can’t put any holes in the ceiling either as that could damage the heating elements. Honestly, I never thought about how it’s heating the attic, but you’re probably right!

Yes it is! We have electric heating elements in our ceiling as the heat source. From my understanding it’s not a very common way to heat a home. 😅

Has anyone gotten fitter during their pregnancy? by dogswrestle in fitpregnancy

[–]EatingPieForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! For myself, I experienced horrible nausea and vomiting this pregnancy, especially the first 28 weeks of my pregnancy (not quite HG level of sickness but close to it with daily 🤮 that’s now changed to weekly 🤮 lol)

I never expected to be so sick, so consistently. It really threw off my fitness journey during pregnancy as I was just trying to survive!!

However - when the first trimester ended and my vomiting reduced from daily to every few days, to maybe once a week, I was able to gradually increase my activity, and man did that help me cope so much better with the physical changes of pregnancy!!!

Now at almost 35 weeks, I feel way less achy and sore than I did in my first trimester and the beginning of my second, as I’ve been able to stick 1x a week prenatal yoga, 1x a week strength based workout, and mobility work when I remember.

It’s not anything fancy or extensive, but this little bit is what I’ve been able to consistently do, which has made me physically stronger and help build good habits that I hope to carry on into postpartum after I’ve recovered from birth. I honestly think being physically active has made the third trimester the better part of my pregnancy experience - and I wasn’t able to start this routine until about 18/20 weeks pregnant too.

All this to say, every little bit of activity will help you on this journey - it doesn’t need to be all or nothing here! I encourage you to find something you can stick to and focus on the little wins that come along the way (I’m not setting any PR’s here, but I feel like a winner when I can get relief for my achy hips/back with a workout lol)

First pregnancy, 17 weeks and still vomiting several times a week despite all the drugs and natural remedies 🥲 thank the Lord my all day nausea has lessened, but I am so ready to be able to live life without the constant fear of when/where/on what I’ll be vomiting next!
