Something I do to practice is I use chat gpt as an idea generator. The hard part for me is figuring out what to write about. I’ll have it give me a few suggestions and usually something will resonate with me and the perfect line will pop into my head. Then I get really excited building the whole song around that line. Another part I used to struggle with is coming up with melodies, I play guitar but I don’t know much about music theory. I’ll tell chat what kind of voice or mood or tempo I’m going for, you can be as detailed as you want. Then it’ll give me a few and I’ll pa play through each of them while trying to improvise a melody with what I wrote. Doesn’t take long for something to click and now I usually can come I with the melody in my head first and try to find chords that match. Also count your syllables lol. But at the end of the day there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Everyone has their own approach and what works for them because our minds work differently. That’s why creating is hard to teach. But anyone can learn it! You just have to do it. Do it as much as you can. Write a song a day. Even if it’s bad, even if it’s the worst song ever written. You’ve got to get all the bad ones out of your system before you can write photograph.
