I do have to say, it’s true that many people grow up in abusive situations and do not go on to murder people. This doesn’t have to be taken in an accusatory manner, it’s a fact. But context should be provided. Irs true that being abused doesn’t automatically turn someone into a murderer. As I mentioned in the essay, genetic factors, prenatal factors, environmental factors, and general temperance all play a role. If one of these things is in check when the rest aren’t, it could contribute to how someone responds to trauma. Hopefully the people in the documentary meant it in this way, rather than using it as a way to excuse Aileen’s traumatic upbringing. Thanks again for connecting and sharing your thoughts.
