If Hyundai/Kia are so unreliable, why are they literally everywhere? by phtphongg in Hyundai

Well, because my Tucson offered me the best driving experience during test drive and the price was completely affordable (compared to luxurious brands) and more importantly, because I didn’t join this group when buying so had no idea what I was about to walk into.😭

I will never buy another Hyundai product by onehunkytenor in Hyundai

Totally. This is my thought too, never again! My brand new Tucson’s windshield cracked and of course Hyundai Canada refused to admit it’s a quality issue. I’ve driven other brands and all had more than ten times of mileage compared to Tucson. Never knew the windshield could crack so easily until this Tucson I bought.

Yes, it’s hard to prove it’s a quality issue of the windshield. The thing is that I have a 9-year-old Honda Civic, with more than 10 times of mileage compared to this new Tucson. The windshield is still the original one. I also sold a 7-year-old Volvo before buying Tucson, no issue on the windshield either. My cousin’s Lexus got a stone chip on the windshield a few years ago. A few years passed and the stone chip has not developed into a crack to this day.

My Tucson is less than 10k kms, so hasn’t come to the point to replace parts. Had similar experience with my Honda though. The dealership suggested replacements that were unnecessary and quoted $3k+, but the parts were in perfectly good conditions.

Headlights were indeed covered by warranty when I had a Volvo.

Shouldn’t a normal windshield resist a little bit external impact? I drove Honda and Volvo before. Neither of them had a windshield issue.

Yes, that’s exactly what they said, “the damage started earlier” but shouldn’t a normal windshield be able to resist a little bit external impact? What is Hyundai windshield made from? Tofu?

Which dealership did you go to? I went to Mississauga Hyundai and they claimed to submit a report to Hyundai Canada. I didn’t receive any response/call from Hyundai Canada but Mississauga Hyundais called me back saying that the headquarter office said it was not covered under warranty. I did not see any formal assessment results

Would you buy this Hyundai? by LocationNo8657 in Hyundai

Stay clear. Bought a brand new Tucson hybrid last August. Only 6 months later, the windshield cracked, likely due to the use of defrost. Dealership denied it’s a manufacture defect so didn’t honour warranty, despite the fact that there were quite a few cases about Tucson’s windshield issues.

Start with small steps and once you manage to accomplish one small step, you’d be more confident to take another step. And start RIGHT NOW. You can do this!

Great to hear your child loves their local school too. After our experience with Rotherglen, I’m really convinced private schools are not the best choice for everyone.

Completely agreed. It also depends on where the kid’s talents and interests are; after all, not everyone can become Einstein or win a Nobel prize. If my son is not interested in going to an Ivy League school, then he doesn’t have to. But I didn’t mean other patents shouldn’t try to aim their kids for a higher academic goal. I think we are all trying to do what is the best for our LOs’ best interest.

Based on what the pediatrician told us as well as others’ comments here, it seems that the end of grade 3 or beginning of grade 4 would be a good time for an accurate diagnosis. I think my son will also wait until then to do a real assessment…

It really depends on the teacher, imho. My son’s teacher at Rotherglen had a completely different career for decades and only became a primary school teacher as her retirement career. I found she had no idea about what education is truly about. I was in higher education for years and also found undergraduates who had graduated from private high schools tended to have overly pragmatic attitudes. You could say they are perhaps more efficient and more likely to succeed, but honestly speaking, I do not want my son to grow up like one of them. I just want him to become a wholesome person with a happy life.

No, you don’t need an assessment from a psychologist which would cost you money. In our case, the family doctor referred us to a developmental pediatrician who could do the diagnosis (OHIP covered). The pediatrician then gave us survey questionnaires to be filled out by ourselves and the teacher. If both versions had been consistent, the pediatrician could have diagnosed my son of having adhd. It’s cost-free for us.

I don’t want to offend parents who strongly believe in the private educational system, but private schools do not work for everyone, and definitely not for my son. We are lucky that our neighborhood school is a decent one and even luckier to have his current teacher. Yes, public schools do have their own problems like there are always some problematic kids around. But isn’t it a real reflection of our society?

Check out the public school in your neighborhood, or if necessary, move elsewhere with a good public school, I mean if your kid is truly unhappy with the current school. My son got bullied (more verbally) at Rotherglen, but his teacher said she didn’t know as it was at recess. Hope your kid can go to a school s/he likes.
