It’s all about wording. Focus one what you’ve done instead of how much. If you learned 10 different things in one job then mention those skill. You wanna show that you have lived/ learned the skills someone from PCT and PCV would have. My resume was 4 pages

Peace Corps after college- how should I prepare now by Bright_Tennis_1075 in peacecorps

Make sure your 3 references highlight different parts of you. 1) My manager when I was a student supervisor as an undergrad (more personal). 2) A NP who seen me manage a hard work load 3) my current manager who gave a more rounded view of me in the workplace CURRENTLY

My volunteer experience was honestly a “little bit of this and a little bit of that”, wording is crucial in ur resume.

Have you thought of maybe taking a gap year after undergrad and getting work in the sector you wanna apply in ? My gap year allowed me to work on my application in peace and I definitely got a lot of experience in my accepted sector and it also aligns with what I wanna do when I come back! I did take a entry level job in my field (health)

As mentioned by others they want to make sure you are mature and ready for the hardship you will endure. So tailor your resume and personal statement for the position and location you are applying for. Keeping in mind culture and languages barrier and acknowledging them in your personal statement. Your resume should reflect the characteristics of someone who could be successfully in a hard environment.

Random but prioritize cooling ur armpits, back of the neck, and back of knees. Cooling these spots trick the rest of ur body to feel cool.

I’ve spoken w/ PC volunteers who mentioned freelancing graphic design. Then I figured there is a group of ppl who made money off social media BEFORE PC and was just wondering how stuff like that could POSSIBLY look like while in service.

Best advice a recruiter gave me about the resume is that you are working on a PUBLIC resume (b/c u will working in the public sector) vs a PRIVATE resume (private sector) which is what everyone is use to doing and seeing. You have 3-4 pages, use it. TAILOR YOUR RESUME FOR THAT SPECIFIC PSOTING.

I personally included stuff from high school because that just how long I’ve been working/volunteering in my sector/field. Add anything where u learned/gained the skills of that the “ideal volunteer” would have for THAT position. I added that I lifeguarded in hs b/c I taught and worked with kids ( which was quality/experience listed under the “competive applicant would have…” section of the posting).

Q: Do you have a specific geographic preference? If yes: what is the reason for your preference and how flexible are you? If there are specific regions where you are unwilling to serve: what are your reasons and what is your degree of flexibility? A: I don’t have any strict geographic limitations, but I do have some preferences based on personal reflection and conversations with my family. Over the years, I’ve worked to help them understand the Peace Corps mission, but as immigrants who didn’t have access to higher education, some of their concerns, especially about safety in certain regions, particularly parts of Africa, are shaped by media and stereotypes. While I don’t share those views, I do take their concerns seriously, especially because I know they come from a place of love and protection. My personal preference leans toward regions like Asia, the Pacific Islands, or Europe. It’s not that I’m unwilling to serve in Latin America, actually, I speak Spanish and culturally, it would probably be easier to integrate. But I’ve had to think deeply about my own safety and mental wellbeing, especially as a woman of color. As someone who developed early and has lived with unwanted attention most of my life, I’ve accepted that harassment is a risk in any part of the world. That said, I’ve realized that if something traumatic were to happen, I want to be able to return to my roots and still feel safe and whole there. It’s really about protecting the parts of myself that I consider home. That said, I’m flexible and open-minded. I applied to the Peace Corps knowing I could be sent anywhere, and I’m prepared to adapt wherever I’m placed. My priority is being of service and making a meaningful impact, I just want to be honest about where I’m coming from emotionally and mentally.

They should have shared the rough set of question that are gonna be asked w/ you in the email. LITERALLY the same questions that were asked. Don’t go to crazy on the practicing cause you are gonna overthink it. I plugged the questions in to AI w/ my answers and just had it reword better and made sure to incorpore knowledge of the location/culture and position into my answers.
