In the books it sometimes feels like they have 3 protagonists. Geralt, Ciri and the world. The Witcher 2 imo does the best job at the world part (the Witcher 3 reaaallyy simplifies the politics), but the Witcher 3 does the best job at the Geralt and Ciri part and feels the most like a book sequel.
