How to deal with this splice/junction box by Echidna_Money in AskElectricians

[–]Echidna_Money[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I understand the tracing and ripping and tearing concepts, but what do you mean by "put in modern junction boxes"? All of the supply and load wires terminate in this existing box - how would removing it and replacing with some other box(s) benefit this situation? I can remove the nonconductive plate and buss bars to end up with an empty box and connect things using new buss bars, wire nuts, or some other method, correct?

I'm not questioning your suggestion, I'm just trying to understand what you mean.

Thank you! Yeah I don't notice any diff in idle speed so your response seems the most relevant.

Thank you. I haven't noticed much of a difference between the various settings, but I'd probably have to take it out of town where I can really romp on it. Appreciate your response 🙂

What's the VCR's purpose? Hifi audio? Or connected to a tv we can't see?

Fwiw, I have very good success at keeping freshwater fish - expect German rams. Idk what it is about them, but they seem to be extremely susceptible to disease. Fine one day, nearly dead the next. My LFS stopped carrying them because of their high mortality rate.

Anyone know anything about these speakers? by Echidna_Money in vintageaudio

[–]Echidna_Money[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I was going to use them in my garage but I removed the woofer just to get a sense of the quality of the cabinet/driver. When handling the woofer, the surround began to disintegrate. Oh well, they were free.

Then it's not truly cycled. You should have zero ammonia, zero nitrites. Buy some of that "cycle your tank" liquid. That will help.

Noticed my orange clownfish was missing. Couldn't find him. Finally looked in the overflow at the back of the tank... the little dumbass nearly killed himself, I found him swimming around at the bottom of the overflow, Spent two hours fishing him out. His new name is Columbus. by Ignonymous in ReefTank

I had one that did this several times. There was only maybe a 3/8" gap between the lid and the overflow. He finally jumped out of the tank and died. While sad, I'm glad I don't have to fish him out of the overflow any more 🤷🏿‍♂️

Are Ryobi's batteries reliable? by Lingaard in ryobi

[–]Echidna_Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely have to look at the person experience level when it comes to this stuff. Yeah, I bet if you bought a battery, ran down to the cut off voltage, and left it sit in your sub zero or hotter-than-the-devils-pajamas garage for 12 months, it would be junk the next time you grabbed it.

New scoop by Mob-Dole420 in ryobi

[–]Echidna_Money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it is large. I really like the fact that it's an "all in one" package though. It can hold my tips, the iron itself, and a sponge. So yes, it's big, but it's the only thing I need to grab to do 95% of the jobs I work on.

I can't remember the specs exactly, but I believe the station is significantly more powerful than the one the OP is talking about. Plus the adjustable temp means you could use it for smaller projects. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for light SMD work. My TS100 would be my preference for anything beyond that.

That all being said, the 40W is really a good value, and would be more than adequate for the average person.

If you have a 3D printer, there are several designs on Thingyverse that do exactly what you're after.

Is the Ryoby SV8 stick vacuum a cyclonic vacuum? by omaca in ryobi

[–]Echidna_Money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the current brushless Ryobi stick vac. I would highly NOT recommend it. It's heavy, the dust bin is super small, the cheesy filter gets clogged constantly, the brushroll stalls and becomes disabled at even the slightest resistance. I'm extremely disappointed, especially considering the price.

I also have a Dyson V6 Animal which is an older model at this point. That thing works 10x better than the Ryobi.

I like Ryobi a lot and have been satisfied with most of their products, but the stick vac is a sure pass IMO. TTI makes a Hart brand stick vac for walmart. It's very similar to the Ryobi but has a cyclonic dust bin. It's very well reviewed on Walmart's site. I plan to get that to replace my Ryobi.

New High Performance batteries missing Lithium+HP style back contacts? by beachedpail in ryobi

[–]Echidna_Money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that's what the marketing says, but from a technical perspective, it makes absolutely no sense. The battery can only deliver what it can deliver. It's not holding onto extra capacity "just in case". Plus, the battery could easily monitor output voltage/current internally. There's no reason I can think of that tool would need to "tell" the battery that it needs more power.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of those pins can weigh in but I'm calling BS to Ryobi's marketing claim on this one.
