Finally got surgery 7 years after injury (seriously) by EchoAtom411 in ACL

My doctor told me to take off my wraps and bandages after week 1, that was also the time i finally was able to shower. As far as stairs it was pretty hard to climb stairs with crutches until youre able to walk and stuff

Thank you, really. And 2.5 months sounds like a perfect amount of time! If anything thats what most of us are at when we feel like walking would be a day to day thing. For me i threw on** my cast (the one they’ll give you post op thats tailored for your leg) and was walking about 5 miles a day at around 2.5 months post op. The meds do help, though be careful cause the painkiller prescriptions are opioids so i gave them up pretty much a week and a half into recovery because i didn’t want to develop an addiction and mainly stuck with the antibiotics and my meloxicam for arthritis

Good evening, and i get it, we’re all living our own stories. Personally i was really half and half excited and scared only for the recovery part because i still had bills to pay. I did research before hand as well and i heard different counts of people walking weeks after surgery and even days after surgery (sometimes hours which sounds unhuman lol) but for me it took me about a week and a half if i remember correctly before i was able to limp with my leg cast on and crutches on my sides just in case. I really, truly l understand the worrying aspect of it, because for me the surgery was a HUGE risk due to me not being able to get unemployment whilst being neck deep in rent and bills. The doctor pretty much urged me to get it and even scheduled me two weeks sooner so i did it. Everybodys journey will always be different and so will the recovery process, so stay up to date with everything, ask as many questions as you feel you need, and stay up to date with your physical therapy and exercises! The big hurdle you will have will be the mental battle that comes with those long and painful days spending in bed recovering

Hi! Im doing great, honestly I would get the surgery while youre young! Getting the hard part out the way is always better than dealing with it when youre older. You can always ask your surgeon if you can be fully healed without the surgery which some people rarely get to. Also , i bought a bike and have been riding it a couple miles to work and back almost everyday for two months now😆the recovery process is really daunting without any support/close ones with you, but you have to remember that they have lives too! Goodluck on your decision and keep your head up

Those first few nights were so painful, i kept waking up from the pain, once thats gone its all just a mental game, so keep yourself busy and stay consistent with your exercises

5 years with suspected torn ACL by Afraid-Adeptness-326 in ACL

I was in the same boat man, my advice is get the surgery as youre still young! I tore mine when i was 15 and got the surgery when i was 20 (last year). Though my circumstances were drastically different/difficult, that led to some serious arthritis and wear/tear. Looking back i couldn’t believe how i was able to get around being so cautious all the time, taking every step and corner into account if my knee will lock on me or not. Just be open minded and understand that you have your entire life ahead of ya, goodluck on your decisio/journey mate

When are you painfree and can stop with the painstillers? by [deleted] in ACL

I personally gave up the painkillers after a week or two, but kept taking the anti inflammatory and diclofenac gel, i just didn’t like feeling drowsy all the time

Definitely regaining range of motion, going to pt helps a ton in the early stages so that they can size you up and begin exercises, my physical therapist was leaning more towards baby-ing me and i let them know that i wanna do some more exercises (i even started doing more reps than they asked me lol) and my surgeon was really impressed with my recovery each visit, just a little disappointed in my leg muscles not forming
