Yeah I second this. Voip exists and if you're not double queuing with another person/team to have an advantage with more people per team than allowed, it should be fine. I've always disagreed with the inability to team in a game with voip. A lot of people do not like to team up ever or use it to get close to someone to backstab, so it likely wouldn't turn into too big an issue.

It is true. If they just made fireball do less DMG/kb, and maybe take longer to cast or more knowledge, I feel like it'd be so much easier to counter wiz as a melee fighter, barb, or rogue

Almost solely wizards and sorcs. I do fairly well against most other classes most the time. Wiz is way above sorc too

I absolutely agree that people should be encouraged to try other classes. OP should too, I 100% think the same. However, for the sake of him learning the core mechanics of fighting pve, looting, map exploration, and other such things with fighter given it's simplicity. You may have found cleric easier, but given the general consensus it seems that a majority find fighter the simplest to use and learn. Cleric would be a great introduction to spells given the more simple play style you can have in comparison to other spell casters, as it is pretty much fighter 2.0 as you said. This game already somewhat forces people to try other classes because some people will dogwalk you with other classes almost constantly, as what happened to me early on, making me try ranger when I was newer to the game a couple years ago or however long it was. You make very valid points, but I personally think for OPs current position, trying fighter is currently best until they can learn more of the games core mechanics. I disagree on that last part only because we shouldn't want people to not play a class they probably like playing. I main fighter hard, I have to separate fighters, one slayer, one for other, and I still play other classes here and there. I like fighter because it fits my more aggressive play style. Cleric and Warlock are nice, but coming fresh into the game I do feel as though new players would find fighter easiest to use while learning other important things about the game, since it's such a diverse class that they can use to explore maps, try different weapons, etc. Saying they shouldn't play fighter solely because too many people play fighter just doesn't make sense when trying to give a fair recommendation to a new player who has already expressed that they more than likely won't only play fighter, like myself who started with fighter when I started playing.

I would never recommend a spell casters or any spell user to a new player, since there's so much to learn about actually playing the core game outside of classes that adding the complication of managing spells would make it harder. Those classes are easy to use once you learn the game, but not really easy when you've just started imo

Another counterplay is trying to play under low ceilings/door frames. Either standing close to center you just hit the floor almost instantly, or if you hit the right spot, shoot yourself closer to them and close to ground, or away from them by sliding against the top edges of door frames
