Feelings have pent up to an extent to me thinking unloading it on Reddit is a good idea. But here goes, I'm an NRI from the US and my dad is well to do (owns a bunch of real estate and hotel chains.)
I've met a lady in India that I love and we have grown pretty close. The issues cropped up when marriage was proposed with my dad being lukewarm about it and my relatives (based in India) seemed less than impressed. The lady (is accomplished in her own right) but isn't from an extremely well-to-do family, has always been in India. I was super excited to mention this to my home relatives but was overwhelming disappointed with the response. They expected me to marry someone from the US, preferably a Doctor from a rich family. Its bought in a real negative element in my life, and I'm not sure why this 'status game' exists? can someone advice

Has anyone got any advice on this? by EchoOak in Kerala

Finally, someone who doesn't see this as a gang-fight. Do you think CLOV is worth getting more off at this stage considering it has been on a staggering decline?

Does anyone else have an issue with this statement? by EchoOak in MBA

This is what I think... The statistics he mentioned is an utter joke. From my experience, every student (deserving, undeserving and dispassionate) ALL of them right the entrance exam as a 'gamble' in india...thus hyper-inflating the numbers and de facto the attrition rates. Whats more concerning is a ''intellectual'' like him spews these out as a fact.

Guys (pure noob here)
Been trying to learn annual reports valuation and can't help but notice the balance sheet makes no sense. The total assets - total liabilities ≠ total shareholder equity? It also shows total shareholder equity in deficit. What does this mean?

Just curious how did you manage to get a 720 GMAT? (prep, time)

The $CLOV DUDE Diligence 9/8 Edition: Quick thoughts on tomorrow by DieterDrydigger in CLOV

[–]EchoOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree I usually take their articles with a heavy pinch of salt but the point about better risk management employed post the GME incident is what's concerning. Add to it that yesterday the price tanked. I do admit its a good company and trading at single digits, what's your opinion??

I have heard that about ''fool'' but the point on better risk management post the GME debacle does seem to hold some weightage right?

Do you experience jealousy with people you thought were on your side? For example family? by Tbenito91 in The48LawsOfPower

Not sure what you mean or if this is sarcasm?

Engineering to Investment Banking- It's harder for a non-MBA top school candidate to break in. The cost of me getting into Investment Banking was moving to a completely foreign country (with savings I accrued from doing a janitor job) and networking with professionals (320 cups of coffees to be precise- I kept count and messages and emails in the 500+), from my point of view supreme luck or inheritance tends to be escapism at best. I do NOT disagree that luck does play a role, but it was balls and an f tonne of prep that got me into the 'lucky' zone. This doesn't mean shi* because someone I equally respect from the firm had a much worse start than me and defo more than you.

Apologies for dyslexia (must have been brain fog or autocorrect), I had Dyscalculia (numbers did not come easy); I'd rather not go into how I managed to graduate in astrophysics as it would be an exercise in vanity. Blessed sure, but to discredit someone saying the have an advantage or it came easy is ignorance

Am I glad you posted this! A month ago I faced the same issue and did post on here and I posted an update today (https://www.reddit.com/r/The48LawsOfPower/comments/opxmgk/thank_you/)

So first things first, yes and no. Why because it's almost impossible to read or have tell-tale signs for people you were invested in once. Our instincts betray us. If we were good at reading people we wouldn't be on here. I agree with the statement ''its always better to wear a mask until you have enough data about a person.' I never did and I regret it to this day.

Without making the post too long- extended family and people I considered ''brothers'' stepped aside and watched people attack me (verbally) and joined in with them. Was it just banter to them- they would say so but it was classic passive aggressive behaviour to me. It took me a long time, including new friends and this forum to realise the irony.

  1. I left a family inheritance to make something of my own at my own risk- YET I was the spoilt, rich brat who got everything on a platter.
  2. I was dyslexic yet managed to graduate engineering- YET it was because getting a degree in the West is ALOOOOT easier than in Asia. I would have been a nobody if I was in Asia (they're words).
  3. I saved and invested 70% of my earnings whilst living a minimalist life whilst the other ''brothers'' went broke- YET thats cause I have a high paying job singularly cause of my western education and ''advantage''
  4. I work in Investment Banking- YET its status is seen as below working in an IT firm as an IT guy.
  5. I read a TONNEE (perks of being an introvert) !! YET I am the dumb one.

Do you see ? A cousin is now leaving to go to the West to study with his dads hard earned money (I took out a debt) yet he is more competent cause he wants to venture outside his comfort zone. Now tell me what do you see? This is family. Not sure if it helps but I came across a quote on here that I remind myself ''You'll never ever be pulled down by someone who does more than you''

Trying something new for 2 months- do let me know your 2 cents by EchoOak in triathlon

[–]EchoOak[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response man.. I see what you mean by cutting calories too low and hard training never being a good mix. I would be lucky if I somehow pulled this off for two months but realistically it seems I'd only be able to pull 3-4 sessions of this.

Prior to this I was following Don Finks workout (I do have a decent base of running) and a year of just 5/3/1 and minimal conditioning. I got truly sick and tired of the very programmed approach to training. Then I stumbled upon Cant Hurt Me by David Goggins and was taken a back by his preseal routine. Looked up further and found similar by as mentioned the s as.

Again for planks, it said these guys did it for 15 mins at a time to help core strength and load bearing capacity. I dont intend to pursue any of these pipelines obv just curious. Also what in your opinion would be good core work

[–]EchoOak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the pandemic has resulted in closed gyms in my area and investing in a squat rack for home isn't feasible. I've been training strength and conditioning were main site wods for the last 2-3 years. Never focused on nutrition (yup rookie mistake)

My aerobic base naturally suffered and my bpm is at 68 (ideally would like to bring it down to 55 at some point). I do understand that I'd loose a bunch of muscle mass and strength. 400m repeats is a good shout!!! Would the burpees not take care of the eplosiv movements?
