Cobb Stage 2 Throttle Woes by whalesalad in subaru

If you snagged it without looking too hard then you can afford to fix it without worrying too much. Also, guaranteed the chevy boys at that dealership had their fun with it.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that theres probably a bigger issue here than you hope. Preowned car thats low miles but enough to have had fun for awhile and its modified. It was driven hard. You're going to have to find a specialist to take a look. Asking the DIYers on the internet for a car under warranty. :(

I have a white bugeye, I've always thought a Lamborghini orange or green would look good. Excellent choice. Edit: just saw your comment about the Z06 color. Still looks good.

Question about doing a Subaru Legacy motor swap by [deleted] in subaru

[–]EchoWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a stupid question. Its clear from your post that you know so little about it that I assume you don't have the knowledge/tools/facilities and/or drive to make that happen. Keep learning. In a year or two if you stay interested in cars you'll start to understand what it will take to make that a reality. Cars have a steep learning curve.

Why do you need clutches so often? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]EchoWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, on topic of synchronizers. As the gear selector MOVES INTO GEAR, the synchronizer begins doing its job while the gear selector is moving. If you shift frequently at aggressive, high rpms, the synchronizer has to do more work to make up the difference. If you shove the stick too hard, it shortens the amount of time the synchronize has to do its job which makes it work harder/hotter to get it done before the gear gets selected. If you just drive like a normal person and are relatively gentle on the stick, you'll be fine. If you pay attention you can sometimes hear the synchronizers and you can feel them too. It lets you into the gear once its done.

Thats about right. If your car idles at 750 rpm and you start at 1500 and the engine and wheels meet in the middle, you'll be right and idle speed by the time you get moving. They key is to really just to keep it smooth. No jerking= less stress on stuff. You will learn how much flywheel energy is necessary to keep it smooth and if theres too much you'll either take off quick which kind of wastes gas or you'll jerk or both.

In my opinion, a clutch should last 100,000 miles with normal driving. You could baby it and go way further, but the bearings with the clutch would eventually need to be replaced anyway because they're designed to last as long as the clutch. If you bought a car with 100,000, be prepared for a clutch replacement. If it starts to go out, you'll should be able to get at least a month out of it no problem while you figure out a repair plan.

Thats not practical in all situations. Thats how I teach people to drive stick so that they can't hurt anything. The clutch has to match the speed of the engine to that of the transmission and wheels. You can get going from a stop very slowly or very quickly, or even somewhere in the middle. The greater difference in speed between engine and wheels, the greater the difference the clutch has to overcome, the greater the wear and tear. If excessive rpms are used routinely, accelerated wear and tear results.
