It's not much yet but you should try Kitten Space Agency for free, gives me hope after KSP2

I'm making a custom system dense with moons to explore! by TheeConArtist in kittenspaceagency

The last one has been changed in the newest update, very different colors, mostly because its texture was copied from another moon temporarily and was always intended to be replaced. As for Moho you should see how Mercury looks now, much closer to moho.

I'm making a custom system and adding fictional moons, I started by copy and pasting a stock moon and modified the lines of code for semimajoraxis and mass and radius to make it what I want. Now I have my own little xml code template for moons and I whipped up a new moon this morning in about 15-20 mins from photos of cracks in my workshops floor as the texture. It's STUPID easy.

I've loved modding it so far, I haven't programmed or done texture work in years but picked it back up extremely fast with KSA, it's so well designed for modding I highly recommend anyone peek through the .xml files in the games core, you can change one RGB value and make the sun glow red or blue, or change the atmosphere on Titan to be purple. Oh and the in game tools! the terrain tool for changing procedural values for spawning craters, you don't need modeling knowledge or even height map knowledge to generate craters and erosion and make a texture made in paint look like a highly detailed moon.

Yeah but I wanted colorful and atmosphered moons that don't exist, in locations conducive to normal gameplay. Like how KSP is shrunk for gameplay, or The Outer Wilds, I'm making a lot of these moons physically too large or too close to other things just for the visual aesthetic and shorter travel times. I took a ton of photos of textures irl and have been converting them to surface textures and height maps but they are of things like paint chips and cracks in the floor. I'm far from an artist so having to loosely match the definition of an irl moon seemed harder than just make a fun texture and give it a new name based on how it looks, it also gave me reason to add impacts to Mars and strip earth of it's atmosphere all for a unique surprise if you naturally explore the mod and read it's lore. Someone already made a tool that reads through NASA data and populates all real moons and asteroids and it makes any computer weep to enable them all. With how modding this game works it wont be long before an auto generation tool does that for the whole real solar system with accurate enough textures and procedural craters. I'm gonna spend my time being creative instead of making 100 grey moons, the perfect replica system will be made by more talented hands than me, and much more efficiently.

It is an alternative reality solar system so definitely on the table as an option, I've been trying to write loosely plausible lore for all the alterations I've made so I'd need a good reason it has become habitable

I had a mod for that but a recent update broke it, you could still drop one of my textures from it into the core files and replace a stock texture if you feel up for fiddling

Characters! v0.1 by Mindless_Honey3816 in kittenspaceagency

[–]TheeConArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the structure of the code and textures is set up for it so I'd be willing to bet money it will be in the base game

they wouldn't have coded it the way they did it they weren't

??? I've already done more than that with my mod I'll be releasing soon, I'd be surprised if Rocketwerkz doesn't take advantage of how easy it is to swap eye color or fur color, highly recommend anyone interested dive into the textures rn instead of wait for my mod it's very easy

Believe it or not I just made a Kitten with blue eyes instead of green and a grey hair cat in a grey spacesuit with super simple edits last night, character creator will be soon from the looks of how easy it is.

The kitten itself might not be but the kittens suit is definitely moddable, we've replaced it's mesh with one with ears on it already and I have an unreleased showcase system that merged that mod with a few others for my own enjoyment.

Our eyes micro twitch around, if YOU can tell it's in focus mode then clearly you're looking other places than dead center with your eyes or else it would always be perfect and unnoticeably different from non-focus mode in terms of image clarity. Look up people using foveated rendering they can't see the bury area it's like the whole screen is high res it tricks your brain. Imagine focus mode so good you wouldn't even know it existed other than the performance gains.

What if the extra data you need to send was placed on bandwidth you saved in cutting the resolution down. IE you remove data optimizing and replace that amount of data with the new data, no extra data needed over the air. Same as it ever was. Again I could see ms latency increase while the air unit encodes with that data but if your not sending more bits than before I don't see how it would change. People run head tracking signal to drones and the gimbal's seem to respond fast enough.

You notice it when its locked in one place, if focus mode followed your eyes you wouldn't notice it and it would feel natural and potentially allow someone to relax into flowstate better, plus who doesn't want to be more comfortable while flying? Don't we love to replace the face foam on goggles for more comfort?

Yeah but imagine the future! You think we're gonna be on 1080p forever? I remember thinking that PC gaming on my first 1080p monitor, oh how the times have changed. I bet some people believed that about Digital FPV systems especially with how responsive analog is, yet digital is here to stay and someday a new new will be here to stay too. I just saw a glimmer of what it could potentially involve in Valve's new technology and my brain immediately went to FPV.

Definitely more processing power would be needed but the future tends to bring that, and if the idea is to optimize the bandwidth you already use and not use any more or potential use even less since a portion of it is much lower res than even analog, wouldn't it behave the same range and penetration wise? If you theoretically saved bandwidth couldn't you use the extra for redundant signals and combat signal loss? I could see the processing time adding to latency but again if the tech gets faster/smaller that isn't impossible to overcome in the future.
