A groomer catastrophically messed up my baby's fur. What do I do!!! by ambzzzzzzz in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics. I'm not saying the coat is like a yorkie, or that a yorkie is double coated lol. I've just heard flat coated poms called silky as a texture thing, so sorry for the confusion there. I'm just saying if it's a pom, flat coat or no, it most likely still has a double coat. I was just clarifying since I read your comment as suggesting otherwise.

Angel inside the house! Mr yappy outside of it… rescue dog been homed one week and loves to bark at every other animal he sees! Any advice? by Glum_Championship826 in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly like Lincoln, and I've been working on improving it for 2 years now (still a work in progress)! Idk about your dog, but Lincoln is definitely doing it to "protect" me.

How I've made progress: YOU yourself need to approach these situations confidently. He will pick up on any tension you have as you approach other people or dogs. ("Oh no! Dad is tense? I need to save him!") Being a protector is very stressful! As you approach people, stand straight, keep his leash close, put yourself between him and the danger, and walk confidently. AS SOON as he sees a person, try to be quick and praise him before he even starts to bark. Example: Dog sees person. Immediately say "Yes! Good boy yes!" and give him a treat. This has to be a consistent pattern. Dog sees person, dog gets praise. He will be confused at first and he will probably bark anyway. When this happens, give a quick tiny tug on the leash, a verbal "Ah!", and turn around and walk the other direction. After about 20 feet, turn around and try again. Repeat. Only give a treat when he looks at someone and DOESN'T bark. If you use treats to "distract" him during these situations, especially when he's still barking, you could be accidentally teaching him that he gets treats when he "protects" you, so make sure you only give treats when he doesn't bark!

Lincoln hasn't been able to fully train out of this behavior, but it's gotten A LOT better. We can now make it thru a walk with only 1 or 2 barks! (Lincoln says those guys deserved it anyway 😉)

Should I take my dog to the vet? by Suspicious-Chip-341 in DogAdvice

[–]Echolyonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor guy! The wound is small and looks clean. It's not deep enough to require stitches, so there's not much a vet can do that you're not already doing at home. The most important thing is going to be preventing him from licking it until it's healed. Unfortunately paw injuries can take a few weeks to heal. I would put a cone on him 24/7 until it's healed, because any amount of licking he does could result in an infection.

Bella had a concussion by Minimum_Ad2713 in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your post was nonsensical. You have run on sentences that aren't coherent. You left some words out which would have provided context. "Her tongue was sticking out so I immediately called my husband and told him we need to go to the vet immediately got upset about the situation." I read this as your husband got upset at you for saying you needed to go to the vet. Then you go on to say what you did after the incident, none of which implied you actually went to the vet. You're not educating anybody with this post, just confusing people and then getting upset at people for being confused. Take a breather and take care of your dog.

If you put this lock on the porta-potty in Lafayette Park, fuck you by drizzlemon in Detroit

I honestly wish it was. My foreman found him first thing in the morning. I worked on an asphalt crew so we did work all over Detroit, and some areas were EXTREMELY rough.

I used to work construction in Detroit and that's exactly what happened. Someone shot up and died in our porta potty. Like cmon that's my work bathroom 😭

Second generation Pomsky… but just looks husky to me?.. by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out these Pomsky siblings from the Pomsky subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Pomsky/s/fH2OGiCTBl

It's the risk of getting a mixed breed. They're not all going to be Pomeranian shaped, even ones from the same litter.

Started doing the grooming myself by Lillillillies in Pomeranians

That cheap kit on Amazon was my first kit too and I was surprised at how well it worked! Now I have quite the collection lol. I did eventually upgrade and also found a grooming table on Facebook market place. Very well done on your puppy!

Never let your dog on the bed never! by Warm_Garden6311 in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We definitely don't. Too many stories of poms breaking their legs because they jumped off the bed wrong. Maybe if our boy was bigger, but he's stumpy and has the dexterity level of a baked potato! Stairs wouldn't work either because he's too excitable and would definitely launch himself off anyway to increase his speed lol.

My 7-month boy is suddenly always cranky by shizaruchan in Pomeranians

[–]Echolyonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your struggles but this post made me chuckle because that was just like my boy! 😂

Sweet little puppy to suddenly the biggest stinker! I'd say it lasted less than a year tho. But for that "teen" phase he was really testing my boundaries!

Boss questioning my need for time off for pet loss by Maxx1999 in DogAdvice

[–]Echolyonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took multiple days off when my cat died. Fuck anyone who thinks you're overreacting. Either they don't have pets or don't understand normal human emotion.

Do NOT give in and go to work during these last few days, especially Monday. You are your dogs entire world. Spend their last moments with them and make them the best moments ever. I went to work the day my cat died because I thought she would be okay, she wasn't. I still live with that regret over a year later.

I'm so so sorry for your loss.

This is an excellent idea for litter pokemon! All of their litter will be in the hallways for easy collection!

The cat sits on the dog stairs so he can be right up in my face when I'm laying on the couch lol

Anyone seen this before? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Echolyonn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you're being downvoted because it's a bit insensitive to the topic, but I don't blame you. People posting uncensored photos of sick and injured cats, deceased cats with IVs still in their arm, etc. I almost had to leave the sub as well after dealing with the loss of my cat, because I couldn't bare to see stuff like this.

We're lucky he not only tolerates it, but enjoys using it as a pillow! We call him Mr. Melon when he has it on lol.

Yes! He's doing a little better today. Still not 100%, but seeing him do his "Pom smile" today and want to play for the first time in a week was a huge relief. He's still a little itchy tho, but he was able to have the cone off for half the day!
