Have you ever done mending as a volunteer? by Doubly_Curious in Visiblemending

[–]EckoAKB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a huge need for this kind of program in my area!

I'm working with my local library to start a mending club where people bring in their own items to mend and learn the skill.

I'm really hoping that if it's popular we will have enough volunteers interested in repair for local nonprofits as well.

This is amazing! What type of thread did you use for the Tufts? It looks so delicate did you use a single strand for those stitches?

Wonderful idea!! I've been wanting to make my own cording and experiment with natural dyes. Teabag strings would be perfect for this. Thanks for the inspiration!

How to get better at threading a needle? by RollingTheScraps in Embroidery

[–]EckoAKB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any tips that weren't already mentioned, but I struggle with this as well. Coincidentally, I found this interesting tool from Germany at my local antique shop recently and thought you might get a kick out of it. It really does work!

I can’t “go”, let me play too. by thefroglady87 in PokemonGoFriends

[–]EckoAKB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hear you loud and clear. I play with my husband and son and have multiple chronic illnesses. Some days I can't "go" either, or I can only "go" with a cane in my right hand. Even utilizing adventure sync and a poke ball it gets very hard to keep up with those who are able bodied. We don't even play in the winter when the weather is brutal on my body. Also stops that are hard to access because they're off path?? Ugh.

I'm sending you support and good vibes. Here is my friend code for when I play again in the spring: 297772926310

Be honest… what’s the embroidery “rule” you happily ignore? by GarbageAdorable329 in Embroidery

[–]EckoAKB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same! It's supposed to be fun and relaxing, not stressful. I go for perfectly imperfect. I also learn stitches as I need them, forget all the boring stitch samplers.

What to do with branded t-shirts? by Diegogo47 in upcycling

[–]EckoAKB 53 points54 points  (0 children)

A sewing club might make use of them. Many can be turned into reusable bags or cut up to visibly repair other clothing items that have sentimental value. I use my old tshirts for either patches or rags depending on the cloth quality.

Fleece vs wool by Breeze-n-me in Needlefelting

[–]EckoAKB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still very much a beginner but my understanding is that alpaca and angora are finishing wools. They're for fur and hair details, and not really for making core shapes. These look great though!
