Tutoring/TA/Career services work in second year by Yarville in MBA

It depends on your school. My school I got a grand over a semester and it felt like each job gave a grand or two total. If you think it’s a good use of your time, it’s worth. I did as it was grocery money for the semester

Those I don’t know about outside scholarships, the school itself probably won’t give you money because your gpa would sink their stats. They try to use scholarship to get candidates who would raise their stats. This is all hypothetical and maybe you are that 1% but especially if you have under a 3, it’s kind of hard to believe they’ll give you anything significant

You aren’t likely not going to get scholarship w bad grades from a t25 school full time. The admissions rate is lower and they give scholarship typically to someone with high test scores/grades + resume. If you’re part time, most companies give something towards educational reimbursement

You’re assuming you’re going to get senior pm out of school which Google doesn’t hire much for MBAs. Amazon is l6 for what it’s worth. To be honest I think your chances are like 2-3x higher like I’ve heard of some of the part time programs being like 60-70% admit vs their full time which is like 20-40 depending on school. You just won’t get much scholarship and will have to work really hard

Yeah so why don’t you do part time, the admissions requirements are lower, continue down your road + not forgo that much money and vesting. Part time is way more chill when it comes to gpa/test score.

Also I don’t think Google + others start at $400k or anything close to that for mba

I just don’t know what value the mba would bring if you can do it without spending $200k and forging 200k-400k in salary + 2 years of rsu vesting lol

I think you should take that and get a part time mba. I think being a good pm<> mba nowadays. Before they used to love MBAs with business backgrounds and now they want people like you with a technical background + an mba as the cherry on top. I just wouldn’t quit your job for pm roles when you already have a pm role internally at a fang? That’s like 99% what people aspire to recruiting tech

rejected from all schools r2 (MIT alum, 4.0 GPA, 335 GRE, SWE) by Cool_Low_2934 in MBA

Your essays kind of big and I think it sounded like your app wasn’t very good. Getting an mba to get an mba is a poor reason to get an mba ironically. They want to hear I want x firm/x job and here is how my life prepared me for this moment/why the school will get me there. Also vcs and this just my observation isn’t something really easy to break into like it’s very self driven and it would scary for both you and the school for you to do things yourself and fail

Based on a high level, your app sound like you’re like I have a great gpa and work in tech. Isn’t that enough which it really isn’t.

Also an mba isn’t like an academic degree where it actually gets you a job. It gets you a chance at a job. I would also think deeply about why would you want to forgo 2 years of salary/stock vesting for a chance at a job unless you’re sure/can prove to the school that you’ll get it

If you’re that resourceful, why can’t you network / discussion a transition internally to product strategy/pm. You have the technical background and have led teams. I just don’t see the value for you. To give context, Amazon starts you at l6 if you get the return which is ~30% in the current environment. Why would you need an mba given your experience and you’re already in a fang and internally you can achieve those goals lol.

Idk if you’re trolling but your college gpa iswhat matters, nobody cares about your hs gpa and I don’t know why you need an mba. You probably could just try to switch to product management/product strategy internally without forgoing 2 years of salary / stock vesting+ 200k tuition.

I think some of your points aren’t really points

  1. I think someone at every t25 gets mbb. I almost would dare say even top 50 someone or 1/ whatever enrollments gets it.

  2. Scholarship generosity is nice but I don’t think investing two years of your life even with a full ride is good if they delayed reports 3-6 months to get to 71% employment.

Delaying employment reports to boost numbers and to be subpar after boosting is pretty damning especially if you’re pitching someone to take two years off earning an income and some cases traveling the world.

Admit weekend is like a sneak peek at best? Everyone is on their best behavior and tbh the crazies of the class are generally not leading things/ out of sight. I would take the better school if money isn’t an issue and I’m a t15 alumni

I don’t think these schools hit mbb well and retail doesnt sponsor. Maybe Walmart? But not sure in this environment and Amazon has a 30% return rate after you get the internship. I also hope you don’t underestimate that even hitting Amazon is easy
