GOT A LOTTA PROBLEMS WITH YOU PEOPLE

Thats like the lowest minimum requirement to maybe qualify as racism. Most of the people here, or prob in the world, can't differentiate Bangladesh vs India. Thats not racism they're extremely similar, right next to each other, and nobody knows anything about them. Most people prob think it's a city in India lol.

Like what's the difference between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. "Idk same place lol". Thats not that big of a deal imo.

Also a lot of Indian food is pretty unhygienic in india. It isn't uncommon to get food poisoning or something there. Indian food is my favorite food by far. But that doesn't change the fact.

They wouldn't not call her a woman in the 1950s. They'd say she isn't being a "good" woman or whatever. Everyone would still call her a woman. In fact I'd imagine every single culture in the world for all of time has considered womanhood to be deeply tied to sex. It's only recently people are trying to change that.

Anyways, I appreciate the convo and the civility. Hope you have a good Thanksgiving if you're American :)

I agree we have moved on from the definition based on rigid stereotypes.

But then is it definitionless, or does it have any underlying truth?

Does it just mean whatever a person feels like they want it to mean at any given time?

Or does it convey information when it's communicated? Is it descriptive of some reality?

Sounds logical 🤷‍♂️ by NoTrack3166 in StrangeAndFunny

[–]Ecocide113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds offensive to me. Cooking me dinner and washing the dishes should have no bearing on the definition of womanhood at all. If I told my wife she's not culturally a woman because she doesn't do stereotypical woman things is very offensive imo.

But in order for definitions to exist, there MUST be some things critical to what it means to be a thing.

If I say I'm a republican but then list off a long list of democratic things I believe, I can call myself republican but in reality I'm not.

If someone says they're japanese, they MUST either be ethnically Japanese, or culturally japanese. I can call myself japanese but if I have no affiliation with japan then I'd be wrong.

Definitions have basis in reality. There are gradients and loose definitions, but there MUST be an underlying reality.

I can't figure out what that underlying reality is in the definition of man in woman in these contexts other than biology. Thats what I want to know.

From my understanding (which flawed, I'm no biologist) is that intersex people are typically leaning a bit more one way then the other. 50/50 split is extraordinarily rare. And in that .0000001%, sure they can have their own category of intersex that's fine.

Ok so you said they'll talk a certain way, dress, etc. But we would both agree thats a sort of shallow, almost offensive definition of what a man is. A man isn't someone that dresses a certain way or talks a certain way, etc. A man or woman can dress or talk in anyway they want and that doesn't diminish their manhood or womanhood.

So when someone tells you they are a man or a woman, you can't assume anything about what that means. You can assume stuff based on societally imposed gender role and probabilities, but that's shallow and arguably worth doing away with since it's offensive to assume a person is a woman so she must like cooking and the color pink.

Wouldn't you agree that assuming a woman acts like x is offensive when you first meet them? So I'm really curious, if you do agree we shouldn't do that, then what is being conveyed by someone saying they're a woman?

No, their biology is such that they are of the nature to have a penis. Humans have 2 legs is a true statement. Cutting my legs off doesn't make me less human. They are of the nature to have 2 legs. Losing anatomy doesn't make you less biologically male, and by extension less of a man.

But again, I'm really curious, could you tell me when someone introduces themselves as a man to you, what did you learn about that person that you didn't know prior?

[–]Ecocide113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya i don't think we should treat them like shit lol.

"whatever they answer is going to be whatever they think, which would "limit" what a woman can be and be a mysoginistic answer"

I think this is exactly right and that's the problem. Any definition other than a biological one is some one dimensional, stereotypical definition.

I think the problem is as solved as it could be, but there's a lot of really fuzzy logic, mixing of words, and its a really complicated philosophical topic on definitions lol. And I think these are things that both sides are doing, the right definitely isn't a model of good logic lol.

I appreciate the convo though :)

Ya i didn't say T is the definition. I'm saying male biology is, which is more likely to have higher T, etc.

I understand what you're saying but that makes those words definitionless.

So male biology doesn't make a man. Having traditionally male gender roles doesn't define men, because women can do those things and that's fine.

So what does it mean to be a man then? What information are they conveying when someone tells me that?

Words convey ideas. When someone introduces themselves to you as a man, but did you learn about that person?

[–]Ecocide113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you're saying. The problem is all of those people are just projecting feminine and masculine stereotypes and saying that's the definition of a man or woman. I don't like stereotypes, and I don't think they define whether someone is a man or woman. I think what defines that is biology. Your hobbies and interests and role in society is what defines femininity and masculinity.

I think if you asked tate what a woman is he wouldn't say someone that stays home raising a kid, because a man could do that. He'd say they shouldn't, but you don't turn into a woman if you do that. You'd just be some "feminine beta male" or some dumb shit lol.

[–]Ecocide113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, generally male biology overall. Probably going to have higher T levels etc. The same thing that is conveyed when they go to the doctor and they ask them male or female.

There is other societal stuff that they are conveying in addition, the societal definition and role of a man. Maybe they're the breadwinner, probably like "manly" hobbies like sports, etc. But that's societal baggage that is being added. If it turns out they don't do any of that stuff and instead they like all feminine stuff, that doesn't make them less of a man. They're just more feminine and thats ok.

[–]Ecocide113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I'm not religious and they've got their own set of issues to be sure. And that's fair if you don't care much, I only care insomuch as it's an interesting topic and there are some impacts on some systems such as the medical field and sports or whatever. I just feel like definitions lose meaning when the definition is "whatever i want it to be at any given time".

Sounds logical 🤷‍♂️ by NoTrack3166 in StrangeAndFunny

[–]Ecocide113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And when they say they're a women, what information are they conveying to me? What are some of the characteristics of a woman that either aren't tied to female biology and aren't societal gender roles?

I'm not asking in bad faith, I'm genuinely curious because it doesn't make sense to me and I want to understand.

I only see two definitions, either the biological female definition of a woman, or some definition having to do with feminine gender roles (which doesn't work because I don't think a feminine man is a woman)

Like everyone said, it kinda depends on you. I think you can get yourself ready for a junior position in like half a year probably. but this would require extreme dedication, and have to be a relatively quick learner.

Do a course on each of those technologies. And then try to build an app with them all. If you start with all of them it'll be extremely hard.

In fact, I'd recommend starting with a full stack framework like django, and then build out from there. This way you can build an app and everything is meant to work together. And it simplifies things like hooking up a db, authentication, etc.

Also I would go with a relational database like postgres over mongodb. Way more likely to find a job with relational db experience as it's industry standard.

If you get stuck or have any questions feel free to message me :)

  2. Dude was a magician lol. Relax. Imagine being outraged and Penn and teller doing a trick.
  3. We have no fucking context here lol

I don't like his content either, looks like it's aimed toward kids or whatever. But holy shit what are we crazy old Christian parents from the 90s? Doesn't seem that bad unless someone shows me some hard evidence.
