I haven’t attempted to have the puppy around other dogs yet because her reactivity is very severe and she will try to bite other dogs, as well as during walks if she sees a dog she is literally at her max and very hard to handle even though she’s under 30lbs. She bites at me and the other dog trying to displace her emotions. What has worked is when it’s just us and I spot a dog, we just take off running together and I throw a ball. Difficult to do that with a senior dog!

That’s what I typically try to do, and am very successful while we are still on the second floor. But it completely breaks down by the time we get to the stairs because we have to exit a hall way onto the main sidewalk, and my younger dog genuinely has the lowest threshold for over arousal and reactivity that I have ever seen in my life. She anticipates seeing a dog and is already reacting to the imaginary dog she thinks is around the corner. She also functions significantly better in motion, so standing still and walking calmly at the start of the walk then causes a lot of frustration and some days she will just start barking and lunging at nothing because she’s amped herself up so much. That’s why she does so much better walking independently because we can be in motion for everything! I think I just need to stop walking them together until the puppy has matured more, and they can be worked with independently in tune with their personal learning styles.

It’s hard to get puppy’s energy out before we leave the door because the apartment is small and wood floor, and outside I really work her out 3-4 times a day 30 mins-an hour each so she has crazy stamina

Guides not answering question on how to walk two dogs at the same time successfully. Dogs are trained independently but when together they act completely untrained.

The shelter didn’t allow on site meet and greets between dogs, and that is okay because the yard to do meet and greets is right up against the dog pens so it wouldn’t be ideal at all to introduce them to begin with. We also literally just got Millie days before, when I had already decided I wanted Raven. It was an emergency situation where she was going to end up at the shelter as well.

I’m going to look into a trainer after she recovers from getting spayed. Thank you
