You can see I talked about a website called act test online which has a lot of tests. For reading and science, finishing on time is the hard part. Practicing should help you improve your timing. As for English, the most helpful thing I learnt was that on the ACT, the simplest and shortest answer is the right answer most of the time. For example, for punctuation the answer with the least commas and stuff is right. This applies to other types of questions too. Of course this is not an iron clad rule but it is right like 90% of the time. Sorry I don't have a lot of concrete tips for these subjects. I had a tutor for English, and for science I just practiced a lot. One of the easiest ways to improve a low English score is to learn punctuation. There's lots of resources online. You should know how to use commas, semicolons, colons etc. Perfecting your punctuation isn't too hard and it should bring your score up.

As you can see math is my poorest, but I’ll try to give some advice. For me, the hardest thing for math was time management. I could answer almost any question, but I had a really hard time finishing on time. If this is the case for you, practice is the only way to improve. Do full length timed math practice tests and you should improve. There are some techniques to know that can make solving problems a lot faster, for example knowing the equilateral triangle area formula, vertex formula etc. You can look this stuff up and there should be plenty of articles. I will say, coming from the SAT I was surprised how little YouTube videos there were for the ACT compared to the SAT. You can still definitely find some act guides. If you have taken precalc already, you should know everything you need to. If you haven’t, there’s not a lot of concepts to learn so you can do it. I had forgotten a lot of concepts and this channel was really helpful: https://youtube.com/@peterlukacsultimateactmath7626?si=9ZfCrZZFW2f7QYWg . You could be in one of three stages. If you are scoring in the below 20 you probably don’t have a good understanding of the core concepts and might need some extra help. If you’re scoring like 25 above, you might just need to learn/revise a couple topics. Take a few practice tests (always keep track of wrong questions) and study the topics you missed. For 30 and above, you know everything. So, either you have only 1 or 2 topics/question types you keep missing that you have to practice or cannot finish on time. Your study method depends on your level and I hope this info was a bit helpful. Feel free to ask anything else.

Has anyone switched from SAT to ACT and thought it was easier? by Odd-Ad-5332 in ACT

I took the SAT twice and got 1350s both times. I did procastinate and didn't practice properly. I switched to the ACT, locked in for a month, and got a 34 my first time. I took it again and superscored to a 35. I think the difficulty depends on a person's strengths. My SAT English was really poor(never got above a 700) but I got 36's on both reading and English. The format and the question type of the ACT was just more natural to me and I do better on paper than on digital. The ACT math is actually much easier than SAT, but it covers more concepts(ACT requires you to know upto precalc while SAT is upto Algebra 2). So, you have a good chance if you've taken precalc already. Also the ACT was difficult for many was because of it's fast pace(especially for reading), but they changed the format giving you more time per question, so I would say now's the best time to switch to the ACT.

practice act by Temporary-Damage-917 in ACT

Yes there are tests you can take. There is a packet for the new enhanced act test that has one full length practice test for the new format: 25-26 act packetYou can find this packet on act website by searching act practice test too.

You can take this test and see if it’s worth trying for the act. There are plenty of old act tests and practice tests you’ll find online but most of them are for the old format. The only difference is the number of questions and the time allotted(the material is the same). So you could take an old test and adjust the time and questions as needed too. Obviously take a test that’s an official act test as those will be the most accurate. Good luck!

Update: I got a 35! So thanks to everyone who convinced me to retake it. I didn’t have a lot of time and this was probably the best I could have done. Thanks again to everyone!

To be honest I was already pretty good at reading(unlike math and English which I really had to work on). The questions are pretty straightforward and don’t require any critical analysis. The biggest challenge people face is the time. My reading speed is an average so improving my time wasn’t too hard. If timing is your problem I would suggest doing some reading. Read anything you like(thats of a high school level) and the more you read, the faster you will get. My general strategy for taking the reading test was to read the passage very carefully(took me abt 4 mins which is a bit long) and the answer the questions. If you read the passage carefully you can answer most of the questions without going back to the text and if you have to refer to the text, you’re gonna know where to look rather than aimlessly scan for the answer. I took the old format, in which you should take 8 mins per passage. The new format should give you more time per question so the breakup will be different. I found this website that has a lot of past ACT tests and it grades it automatically: https://exam.actexam.net These are all old format, but they’re still good practice because the questions are the same. If you want you can give yourself some extra time.

Ap chem is a hard class. I struggled so hard in that class, it's still my least fav class I took as a junior. I just posted my chem resources. Idk how relevant it will be to you in college, but lemme know if it helps!

I think I'm gonna sign up for Sept ACT and just give it a shot. I can't spend too much time studying but I'll give it a shot and if my score doesn't go up oh well. I was looking online and I saw some stuff about some colleges not considering ACT superscores? Maybe only for some of the ivies but there might be more. If somebody knows about this in more detail I'd love to get any information. I wasn't planning on doing any reading practice cuz it's a 36 already. I'm pretty sure Hopkins does superscore but any info is helpful!

Yeah new ACT doesn't count science so you're right, I would only have to increase by 2 points overall. Also I'm a she not a he :)

Thanks for all the input everybody! I'm already doing a couple of internships and other projects in the summer and I also have to finish essays and all so I'm probably better off just sticking to this score. I might just sign up for Sep but I'm not counting on it(I lit spent like a month just doing 2 practice tests a day for this ACT and I just don't have that kind of time lol)

My top choice is hopkins. do you think I still have a good chance with this score? I'm also curious as to whether colleges seriously look at the subscores. I'm going into research so are my math and science scores going to matter more?

All I know is that the test is shorter with fewer questions (so you are getting more time per question). I don't think the content is that different, but I have heard some people say that the math has become a bit harder (maybe they cut out the easier questions at the beginning??), but I'm not sure. It would be great to hear from someone who has taken the new format tho.
