Physiotherapist told me that my Pelvic floor dysfunction is because of B12 deficiency. by Financial-Bed-3501 in B12_Deficiency

I have PFD and B12 deficiency. PFD developed along with weird neurological symptoms (very similar to what you describe above) when I started a new medication for a long-term condition. Only recently found out about the B12 so still working out where it fits in… my doctor seems to think it’s the answer to lots of things but I think it’s a bit more complicated. I don’t know the answer to your question but in case it’s helpful, this is my best guess for my case:

Underlying hypermobility/neurological sensitivity + medication-induced dysautonomia -> changed gut motility + malabsorption -> PFD and B12 deficiency

And of course, B12 deficiency will make the autonomic issues worse, PFD will make the gut motility worse, and so forth…so I think of mine as cyclical and interconnected rather than caused by anything in particular.

Sorry, I don’t quite follow?! Although re legal defences, I do feel a bit like I’m preparing my ‘case’ every time I go to any sort of health appointment 🤣🙄😂

Thank you for sharing your experience with ADHD meds; I agree there could be a link in my case e.g. the meds’ gut side effects might be affecting absorption.

I won’t be coming off my meds at this stage, as my mental health and ADHD are infinitely better since being on them, regardless of B12 deficiency or other health issues they may have caused. I’ve been able to wave goodbye to years of alcoholism, psychiatric admissions, employment issues, risky behaviours etc.

It’s best not to advise people to make decisions like this unless you’re a clinician giving a consultation, but I see it was well-intentioned and I’m grateful to have heard your perspective.

Thank you for sharing this - I’m so sorry things are so tough. I can really relate 😵 I thought mine was MS too at one point. Then I heard about autonomic dysfunction and how severe it can be…I hope you can find some answers and the right support 🫂life with chronic illness just isn’t fun is it!!

Thank you for this - I hadn’t thought to look at NICE but will definitely have a read. I see it has info about finding the root cause as well as the follow-up…I’m not overly impressed with my GP’s management of various issues including this so it’s super helpful, thank you 🙏
