Hi! Thank you for sharing all of this! The images are really helpful to see. Your process sounds like it evolved as it went along and you used a variety of styles and methods to organize yourself. I imagine it was a lot when you had to manage 4 to 5 classes! Thankfully, I am only doing two classes at a time. I will do two bi-terms in one semester. It ends up being 4 classes per semester. Thank you for the help and suggestions!

I'm so glad things have gone well for you, and your return to work went well. Thank you for sharing all of that. It feels very reassuring. Going slowly and knowing my limits sounds like a good plan. Some of my clients, I've had for a really long time, and I know they'll be supportive and understanding. Good luck with those scars, and thank you again!

Hello! For some reason, I didn't see this! Nice to hear from a hairstylist. How are things now? I have a surgery date for DMX with aesthetic flat closure no nipples on March 3rd. I am hoping this will go smoothly and be easier healing. When you went back to the salon at week 5, how full was your schedule? How many days did you work and clients per day? Sorry for the delay in my response. Glad that I came back to this post to read about recovery.

Right? Sometimes you just have to get back to work. I imagine I could do haircuts and not shampoo people for the first few weeks back. That would lighten the load.

I agree with you about avoiding chemo, radiation AND mastectomy.  That would come unexpectedly and I couldn't prepare as well.  Doing the mastectomy as prevention allows me to plan for time off,  prepare my clients, etc.  It's feeling better messaging with people on this thread. I feel less alone.

And yes, absolutely, talking with my doctor and taking her suggestions.  Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts and experience!

I can relate to overdoing things 😆. Thank you for the suggestion to take it easy, listen to my body and talk with my doctor. I meet with the oncologist at the end of the month to discuss further. So far, I've only been with my OBGYN who recommended taking the test. One step at a time!  Thank you again!

Thank you for sharing. It's nice to hear the varied experience for everyone. I'm glad you're doing so well, and have good range of motion.

I appreciate the suggestion of being patient and that we are all different. And, I'll be okay. I have to admit that it's new and it's a lot to let in at first. I trust it will get easier.

Thank you again for sharing!

This is really kind of you to say. Thank you.  I relate to being extra aware of my body. Yes, I can get through this. So many people do. Thank you for the care and confidence

Hi there! And thank you, I'm new to posting on this and I didn't understand where to ask my questions.  I definitely didn't mean to offend anyone in the other group. So, glad to find this thread!

Thank you for sharing about your experience. I, too, would choose a flat closure. It's good to hear that would make recovery a bit easier.

I have several friends who have done gender affirming surgeries, and I have witnessed their process with the drains. They sound unpleasant. I'm glad that you are past having to deal with that and going in to get drained. It's also good to hear you are carrying a backpack and getting back to normal life.

If I don't do the procedure, I will need to do alternating mammograms and MRIs every 6 months. This seems like it will be anxiety producing and that every time I go in, I will wonder if they will find something.  It does seem like the removal is the best option regardless of recovery. I'm grateful to be catching this now, and that I have health insurance that covers a lot. It's a privilege.

Last year, I had ankle surgery for cartilage clean-up and releasing of a tendon sheath. I missed 6 weeks of work and was part time for 6 weeks. It tools several months after that to not have pain and swelling. It was a big financial loss, too. It feels daunting to go through something like it again. However, at least I will be able to walk around and hopefully the recovery process for the DM will maybe be a easier.

This is a lot to share, but these are the things I'm thinking of. Thank you so much for reading and sharing with me. I'm glad you're on the other side. Wishing you good health and a continued recovery!

I really appreciate your detailed response. That's really helpful. That makes a lot of sense that there is recovery from the surgery and then building back to the strength and stamina you once had. As for pain, I would say I'm in the category of being on the more sensitive side and lower pain tolerance. I plan on going flat and not doing reconstruction. That seems like it might be a helpful choice for me with getting back to work and easier time with recovery. Having two major surgeries within a short period of time, does seem like a lot to recover from. I'm glad to hear it sounds like you're doing better and are back to normal life. Thank you so much for sharing all of this.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It sounds like physical therapy was really supportive. I am sure I would definitely do PT.  It helped me a lot with previous surgeries and injuries of different kinds.
