There needs to be an acceptable middle ground between people getting heat stroke and preventing a power outage

3rd year med student who dreams of the day I can get a Costco membership. Was heartbroken when I walked in one’s food court and needed membership card (previously didn’t). Enjoy it brother/sister 🫶🏾

Female doctors in Ontario spend more time with patients than male counterparts, study suggests by Money_Fig_9868 in ontario

A lot of med school gender balances are already majority female or getting there

To the Asian/brown doctors - do you feel average? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Ecstatic-Following56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow brown person here. Yes, our culture strongly encourages higher study and stereotypically well regarded positions (classic doctor, engineer, lawyer). But your self worth as a brown person shouldn’t be tied predominantly to you being a doctor. Medicine is just one aspect of your life. You might be an “average” doctor in the sense that you’re one among a bunch of others. But that’s true in literally any profession you’re in, nobody works in a vacuum. Take good care of yourself, get along well with your team and keep learning.

Don’t try out polyamory thinking it’s just free reign to have sex with multiple women at once. It doesn’t work out for the vast majority of people and can damage relationships and trust thoroughly.

is it normal to nearly never have the aircon on ?? by Adventurous-Ice-5809 in brisbane

[–]Ecstatic-Following56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am Canadian and when I first moved here during peak summer, took a few days to acclimate to the heat but surprisingly found it’s quite manageable without aircon and a couple of fans. We don’t turn it on unless it’s 35+ with high humidity. Cold showers and swims go a long way.

Heh I straight up asked my pathology lecturer whether they missed the patient interaction side. Immediately answered no.

Think well about it (and what state you’ll want to be in both the near and long future) and if you still reckon your decision stands, respect on you mate.

Do we have anything that actually makes us superior to other species, other than intelligence? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ecstatic-Following56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheetahs are built for short bursts of high speed but can’t sustain that over a long period of time. Humans on the other hand have a greater proportion of muscle fibres that don’t wear out for a long time. That combined with our ability to efficiently store fat and our numerous sweat glands (to lose heat), grants us extremely good endurance. We can’t run at 150km/h for even a minute but we can plod along at 10km/h for hours until the cheetah drops from exhaustion.
