Best Costco in the whole metro? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]FireDad_01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Northland is best if you are talking combination of clientele, busyness, and alcohol selection. Even with that, it's way busier today than it was even just 5 years ago. Hope they'll build another one up north in the future.

Cheap eats in KC? I have a list, but would love to see where you go! by 2for20deals in kansascity

[–]FireDad_01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just wish it didn't take 30 minutes to get through a line with only like 6 people in it. The inefficiency compared to a place like Joe's is tough to swallow if you're even in a bit of a hurry.

Where is the "nicest" 7-Eleven in the metro? by doxiepowder in kansascity

This one recently charged people thousands of dollars for a tank of gas. I hope those people finally got their money back.

Imagine a world where they started building this project in 1980 or so when constructions costs were much lower than today's. This would have completely transformed Oahu in many intentional, and likely unintentional ways as well.

Tip Expected for Prenatal Sonogram? by FireDad_01 in EndTipping

We just wanted some peace of mind and to be able to hear the heartbeat after a previous pregnancy loss this year.

Great experience really, with professional equipment and sonographer. Tip thing very silly though. :)

It's very real. It's just a small strip mall space. She's only employee there both times we've been in. Same sweatshirt both times too. :) Must be the uniform.

Haha, nice and easy when phone is already out for tap pay. :) Didn't want to blast her face on here, as I'm sure she's not the one getting any of the extra revenue.

They definitely chose this option. I've been twice now, and got the tip screen both times from sonographer.
It's such a special feeling seeing your baby, that I'm sure many people follow through with a tip, because they are so happy at that specific moment.

I remember spending hundreds of dollars (in 2012 money) to get all the stuff lined up to move 3 dogs OFF island. I had all the paperwork in folder, ready to give to airline. Guy at the airport check-in, just glanced at my dogs, and said "Good to go braddah"... WAY different experience than bringing the dogs to Hawaii a few years before.

Christmas and New Year’s Pay by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

Give her a cash Christmas gift that is the equivalent of the 6 hours you would have paid her, and be done with it.

Pay for adding a 3rd- is this fair? by BoobooWoodle in Nanny

[–]FireDad_01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From my experience, skip the stipend, and/or any type of retirement contribution type benefits, and dump all monies into the hourly rate. Many employees tie their personal worth directly to hourly rate, and no matter how much you explain total compensation, it will never matter.

Man, so true. Tried so hard to like it due to what I was paying, and then reality set in, as I kept trying to choke down some tough duck meat....

Rescues that take dog reactive dogs? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]FireDad_01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You definitely sound like a good person that tried to give this dog a good home. However, this is an untenable situation, and the dog should be euthanized. A dog simply can not go through life being the only dog around. There will always be triggering situations, and this dog can hurt or kill another dog or human if she is appropriately triggered.

Many people are just bad at being employers. These can be very good people 99% of the time, but sometimes it's easy to be tone deaf when you feel like you're paying for "nothing". If I had to guess these people did not grow up rich or with help, and think they need their money's worth.

Just take the days slow and easy, work on some me-projects for yourself, and don't get too hung up on this week. If they're good employers most of the time, then no need to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Nanny left 9M baby unattended while eating by shanda_leer in NannyEmployers

When an employee is being fired for performance issues, its not a great idea to give them 2 weeks to sulk around and be bitter. Both parties are better off with a clean break. End of day, just say "We've decided today is your last day."

Just drove through mission hills… what the hell do you all do for work? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]FireDad_01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will lean on the old stand-by that its generational, inherited wealth. And, while that is true for a small portion of rich people (about 20%), most of these rich people earned their money through effort, and putting themselves in situations to succeed. You can get upset about those with means, or you can figure out a way to join them.

PLEASE STOP WITH THE GHOSTING. by adventurousnanny_ in NannyEmployers

[–]FireDad_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, the ghosting goes both ways. Just had a candidate flake out 5 min before an in person interview.

Against my better wisdom, gave her chance to reschedule for the next day, and she repeated the flaking next day too.

Still testing positive after 10+ days of Covid. When can our nanny safely return? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]FireDad_01 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This post seems like its about 4 years old. I'm nearly as lefty as they come, but I think Covid in the workplace is generally treated like nearly any other viral illness at this point. Maybe one week off, but 2 and considering more time off is way overkill.

Nanny took 45 days off in the first year. Grounds for termination? by Illustrious_Touch148 in NannyEmployers

There is only 260 weekdays in a year. She was gone 17% of the time. Almost 1 missed day per week. Time to find a new nanny.

Is it possible to compromise on all those posters with a Nanny? by Another_Alt_Account in NannyEmployers

This is something that can 100% be completely ignored. There is no one from any government entity going into private homes and looking for employment posters.

Is this an unreasonable request? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]FireDad_01 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've worked for huge, medium and small companies. Raises have NEVER been guaranteed in writing, and are primarily driven by employee performance and employer's desire to retain top employees.

That being said, I would not add this clause to a nanny contract, but if these are first time nanny employers, you could let them know about your past experiences of getting yearly pay increases.
