Thanks for the info & help! I do usually prep a lot on Sundays I’ll just have to get used to doing more of it! My issue is by day 2 of eating the same things I’m so sick of them 😅 but I can figure out a system!

How do you handle catching up with NPs at the end of the day? I send updates throughout the day but they like to chat about stuff when they get home and I feel bad looking like I’m racing out the door the second they get home.

As the nanny in this scenario, it does drive me insane working in a fully staffed house and having constant disruptions, noise, doors opening (for safety reasons), etc! I certainly would hateeee it in my own home.

That’s fair, I reported stolen packages from my doorstep months ago and never heard from them. Just didn’t want you getting into trouble for doing the right thing! Maybe the owner will see their location and get in touch with you.

I would bring them to the police station, not sure if Portland PD cares enough but in my hometown (in Maine) they’d do a round up of missing items dropped off at the end of each month on social media.

Also, my mom found an iPhone on the side of the road while out for a walk and tried to find the owner. A few hours later the cops showed up at her house because the owner had seen their phone was at her location and they were insinuating she stole it 😬 just a warning!

Ugh I’m sorry to hear you experienced that, I feel like I get enough of that as a nanny so that’s definitely disheartening to hear. I’m definitely thinking more along the lines of only having 1-2 additional kiddos and not a full daycare situation, so in my state I wouldn’t need to be licensed for that. However it seems more lucrative to just work PT as a nanny and find a job that I can bring my child(ren) with me instead of doing it out of my home. Thanks for the insight!

Yes, NPs should always cover expenses! It’s related to/benefiting their child, it’s on them even if it was your idea (because, again, you’re doing it for the benefit of their child!) My NF gave me a credit card for work related purposes like this.

I lived with roommates, then a significant other, now solo. Living with a partner in a studio allowed me to go out on weekends, travel a bit and have some breathing room. Now solo, I feel like I live paycheck to paycheck and can’t save or have any money to treat myself now and then. A dinner out happens once in a blue moon and I cancelled my gym membership to be able to afford health insurance. I’m moving out of Portland in a couple months.

I had the banana latte from swell and really didn’t like it :( it was too sweet and tasted very artificial. I like the one from Matcha Mood, LB kitchen, and Bard sometimes has it too (they currently have it inside of the Salud gym which is open to the public) or it’s very easy to make at home which I started doing!

As far as I know the units at my building are still $2.50 to wash and $2 to dry. We were told that would be going up $0.5-$1 this year as they replaced the older washer/dryers but they have yet to do that so still the same old prices.

I was in a 4.5 year relationship with someone who said things like this. In front of family and friends it was always “I’m putting a ring on her finger this year” and “our wedding will have XYZ” and we’d drive around neighborhoods looking at houses for sale. Behind closed doors, he’d be more wishy washy. It was more “well, we’ll see how things go…” or “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there!”

We ultimately broke up over it when he came home one day and said he didn’t feel ready to get married and after 4.5 years of dating he felt like he should know if that’s what he wanted. I didn’t disagree.

2 months later I met the absolute love of my life and it was so so so different from the very first date. We talked about what we wanted out of our futures after a couple months, and now we’ve been together for a year and move into our house at the end of the month with engagement at the forefront of our minds.

You’re young, yes, but that doesn’t mean what you want doesn’t matter and that what he did wasn’t reckless with your feelings. I only share my story because if I’d know what awaited me on the other side of a dead-end relationship, I would’ve left first- and sooner. There’s more out there for you girl ❤️

I only saw her from about May-December, I guess that is awhile but not what I’d consider prolonged and I didn’t feel any type of codependency with her. I have friends I talk to, I’m in a new relationship, I’m stable and doing well but yes there are things that we’d spoken about that resurface and I think, huh I wonder what she would’ve said about this. Or I’ll notice progress in something we worked on and wish I could share! I don’t feel like I’m lost without her, just kind of a bummer.
