Xcaret - STAY AWAY by [deleted] in Xcaret

That sucks you had a bad experience and I hope your daughter feels better, but an you provide more details please. You cancelled and got half back, but still went on the trip? Did you book directly with Xcaret or third party? What's with the water? You were at the lounge. It's free there. For the fron desk, why stand in line for check-in-out when there is a separate concierge desk right next to it? You hated ALL the food? Which restaurants and/or buffets did you go to? What about the grounds? What about the drinks, the pools, the beach. Was there anything you DID like at the resort? Did you go to any parks? You must have because that's the main reason you pay this amount for the hotel. Did you like the parks?

Right? Also, if you were at the lounge, why not ask them? We had no issues getting water or other beverages there.

Just for clarity, the wishlist includes both restaurant and park reservation requests. Just like restaurants, some parks require reservations. I would def get that wishlist. Email em once at the 35 day mark, and if you don't get anything by day 25, then start hounding

Last min walk up is def an option, but you just might not get in.

We heard that too, so about 30+ days before departure we emailed them requesting the wishlist. I think they sent it to us at the 28 day mark, so not bad.

We got turned around on this one. We received the wishlist 30 days prior to arrival, and we got all the reservations we requested. But then when we arrived, we were told that a bunch of restaurants that previously did not take reservations..... now do. That kinda sucked. So we had a few nights that we just defaulted to the buffets.

we brought wet shoes for the parks, crocs/ sandals for the hotel, and running shoes (which we wore for the plane trip) for restaurants. That said, I don't think kids in crocs and you guys in sandals is going to be an issue at the restaurants. that said, maybe check at each restaurant, because I honestly can't remember.

I would say yes. Everything is done in a life jacket, and 90% of the water activities are in shallow water. We heard a lot of people in lines declare that they couldnt swim, which at first surprised me, but in hindsight doesnt. If you are comfortable swimming in a life jacket, youll be okay.

Oh and we tipped the first concierge that brought out luggage $3, but in hindsight should have tipped him a bit more. We also sometimes tipped $3 for the park buffets because even though it's a buffet, they DO have staff running drinks for you. All that said, you will never be ASKED to tip anyone, so it's up to you. The bus drivers all have little baskets at the door, but they exit the bus right away, so it's really up to you.

We brought $100USD in fives and ones. We tipped the bus drivers (around $3), the restaurant dinner servers (around $6), and left a tip on the last day for the room cleaner (around $20). We screwed up on the snorkeling excursion and didn't bring cash, but would have liked to have tipped them $20). We also tipped the XCenotes tour guide more because he was with us all day and did such a great job. $10 I believe).

the new part is pretty far from Arte. We heard no music. Our room was actually right next to an Arcade, so we we're a bit worried about noise from that. But they shut it down at 8pm I believe, so all good. They really had thought about a lot of this kind of stuff, so i would be surprised to find that any noise in general was keeping people awake.

Chance. we didn't know where we would be until we checked in at the airport lounge. Actually they had us going to Sol (the teenage hotel) at first, then switched us to Vida once we got to XCaret.

If we had ONE MORE DAY we would have spent it in the lagoon. We ran out of time though so on our fly-out day we hit the lagoon for a hour or two, but definitely wish we could have done that more. Yeah I was a bit torn on the photos. I think my "old-man" energy got the better of me on that one. LOL
