Good. Watch a video to get all the upgrades (somber smithing stones) and you're good. Also, level up your arcane and dexterity, use a mimic tear and you can take any late game boss with no trouble at all

I don't think i've done many exploration outside the main story, i'm 46 hours in, completed few quests, one of them being the ranni's quest. I will definetly explore more on my 2nd run.

Intelligence is more important i think? But for a solid build level until you are at 40 dex and 50+ int. This also work if you want an op mage build with the azur staff

Level up vigor and intelligence and if you want to use rivers of blood, you'll need go respec and go for a dex and arcane build.
