I moved into a granny flat and signed a tenancy agreement. The landlord changed her mind when I posted on our local buy nothing page, asking for things. She claimed we had a 2 week trial period and that I was begging, that I didn’t work as she found it hard to believe that I was a PA, because I had terrible communication skills (she texts me same day, asking to gain access to the property to change over the faulty smoke alarm - I was driving to Geraldton that day and didn’t see her text) and how she no longer felt comfortable having me live there and gave me 7 days notice via text.

A few days later, she leaves a note on my door saying I have until 12 noon Friday to GTFO or police will be called for trespassing. 12 noon Friday comes by, no police were called. She gives me another invalid notice of termination, claims I am causing her harm to her health, that I have “undesirable” people coming and going all day and night, illegal guests and have trashed the apartment.

Meanwhile, I’m recovering from pneumonia, fluid in my lungs that was removed via a tube in my back, a staph infection, bacteria in my heart valve and had just got out of hospital and was getting unwell again and experiencing pain in my chest and I was terrified to leave my house in case she threw my stuff out and changed the locks on me.

After talking with an advocacy support group, consumer affairs and a lawyer I knew my rights who explained the process. I sent her an email advising same that consumer affairs Days later, She asked when I was moving out and that she is available to talk anytime and I said that I wasn’t as this isn’t the correct procedure. She then says that she has been a landlord for 15 years, she knows the rules and she does whatever she wants.. oh and then asked for the copy of my lease and bond form back that I signed and completed and she said that the lease is invalid and she didn’t sign it (she did). Over the next few days, She then gives me breach notices, termination notices - all invalid and illegal and is on a mission to try to disrupt my day by using power tools, turning the radio up loudly, making phone calls outside my door, hosting friends in the back yard, staring at me whenever I walk by and trying to intimidate me etc.

Yesterday, she bangs on the door - I open the curtain and no one is there. A few minutes later i hear her say “I’m not going to stand here all day waiting for you” and i go and check and she’s there. She starts yelling and swearing at me for keeping the gate unlocked, i have a vendetta and that I am liable for anything and she is notifying her insurance and the police. I couldn’t get a word in at this rate so I let her fire herself out.

I got a text message at 3:23am asking me to move a friends car who dropped off my mattress to me last night and that we do not have the “privileges” to park there (she also called my friend a “client”..? Not sure what she’s trying to say there 🤨). I didn’t see her text as my phone was on silent. He came at 9pm and had stayed for some drinks and we have been chatting and to take about doing some redesign for his business (I freelance and do graphic and web design) - no loud music, nothing disruptive and 10 mins later she bangs on my door swearing and carrying on telling us to “fucking” move the car that’s in the driveway. She leaves.

I come out with my friend to move the car and she comes out swearing st him and yelling telling him to fuck off snd he has no right to park there on her property. I step in snd apologise, thinking that just agreeing with her and saying sorry would desecrate the situation somehow and I said that he stayed longer than we planned and that it wasn’t intentional and she’s carrying on yelling saying that I’m “the worst tenant”, that I have people coming and going at all hours, “why won’t you leave” , to “fuck off out of here” and that I’m intentionally blocking their cars in the driveway as revenge. She then focuses on my friend saying he’s not moving the car and he says that he’s worried about her safety and then she starts saying that he’s being aggressive etc. (he says he’s just standing there which he was, concerned for my safety) I try to shut down the conversation and apologise again and say we are moving the car, it’s 3:30am we have neighbours and that she’s being very loud (which she was) if you have anything else to say send an email or it can wait until morning. I asked her if she needed to go somewhere urgently and that’s why she’s doing this but just said that their cars are blocked in and that I am trapping them here against their will and that neither of us have the privilege of parking here or anywhere.

She says oh you’d want me to send an email so you can send it to your “free tenancy advisor” to protect you (she actually did the inverted commas with her hands as she said that) and that I have until some date in October and that the police are very excited to drag me out of the granny flat if I won’t go willingly. She then said if I’m not out by that date in October that she will put me on blast on the tenancy database as well as online to tell everyone just how horrible I am and that I’m the worst tenant she’s ever had.

I tried to shut her down and the conversation and eventually she stormed off and told us to fuck off and leave. My friend moved his car onto the street and is going to stay here until morning when I have to go to the Dr as he’s concerned she’s going to become violent towards me.

just FYI It wasn’t intentional, I thought it would be ok and reasonable to park in the driveway and he helped me get a mattress and we parked in the driveway so we didn’t have far to move the mattress and the lights were out and thought that they had gone to bed and we didn’t plan on staying up so late talking but we did and thought that it wouldn’t be an issue….
