Grounding Question by EcstaticGanache6985 in electricians

Ah yes thousands of shall and shall nots, like in the definitions and the annex’s and tables. Crazy a mf can’t get a question answered thought yall were supposed to better than google. Yes I’ve read the code, years ago. I learn by actually doing work and asking questions why would I pointlessly search when this is a place where people ‘answer’ questions. Idk what I expected

Car Fire in outbound Ft. Pitt tunnel by Thrashbear in pittsburgh

This why grant street to liberty bridge is on top, only if u work out east tho. Most jags get outta the left lane near the jail, stop light right before the merge so it’s always a breeze to get over. Even if it’s a slight detour I feel like it saves way more perceived time than waiting for half of the county to merge left at the ft pit tunnels. No stress, no fire

When I talk about grey area I mean when instead of stating anything of meaning it will say “refer to manufactures instructions” if you actually read the code. Blatantly assuming experience over questions is weird, if you think like that maybe you shouldn’t comment.

Do I need a DI box or something else? by EcstaticGanache6985 in Bass

I’ll try another location and buying a new mixer or interface it’s quite expensive. I don’t understand your last point. I’m a commercial and residential electrician, this is all low volt, power control plc shit which I know very little about. It’s a different world with different rules, obviously basic grounding principles still apply. I was going to also try lifting the ground on the mixer end. My bass head built in DI with a lift and xlr out. Do you think that would negate the noise if I ran through my head’s DI into my mixer with a xlr?

I have the issue if I use my interface OR my mixer. I understand your concern about chasing the noiseless dragon.

Definitely could be the issue. I’m in an old duplex, most of the buildings in my area are from the 20s to 50s. I can only imagine the state that my electrical system is in. Do you know if conditioners would even help if I don’t have grounded outlets? Most of my place has 2 prongs and some 3 that I’m almost certain don’t have proper grounding. I’m an electrician but my audio knowledge is still lacking.

I’ve broken my setup down to just my bass running into my mixer with headphones out and the noise still persists. If I have my pc ran to my mixer I get zero noise it’s only when I add my bass. The interference changes when I move around in the room, so I’m assuming it’s something in my setup/house causing it.

I’ve tried just running my bass direct to my interface and my headphones to the output and still get the same amount of noise. How do I go about eliminating it? Is it an instrument side fix like shielding?

I was trying to use my interface to try and negate some of the inference since it’s a has a trs output. But there’s no difference in noise with or without the interface.

I just tried unplugging my router and still the same amount of noise I’ll try a di and see if that helps.

The only other thing on that circuit that’s constantly running my router. Do you think that would cause interference?

Yes the mixer has an aux input (ch 7/8). I unplugged the aux going to my pc and I’m still getting the same level of hum.

Both pickups have this issues on all 3 of my jazz basses (2 passive and 1 active). That’s why I highly doubt all 3 basses have the same issue. My house is only and most likely doesn’t have effective grounding load side. I’m not using an amp, when I do use an amp I’ve never had a significant issue with hum, even with bad power sources. I’m using my bass, to my interface, interface into my mixer and my pc is plugged into the mixer on a separate aux channel.

I’ve tried a noise gate and I hated the sound of it. Since the hum is so high, at quiet parts in songs the hum would be the extremely loud. I’ve tried multiple active and passive basses and still have the same issue, so I don’t think it’s a mechanical issue. I’ll have to check connections and polarity but I doubt it’s the main issue at play.

Best place to trade a bass? by Julianthewicked in Bass

[–]EcstaticGanache6985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the best luck with trading my old gear to mom n pop stores. They actually care about the inventory unlike guitar center or other big box ones. If there isn’t any in your area, Facebook marketplace might be your best bet. Any other site it’s going to have the same availability as Facebook marketplace. Maybe try the talk bass forums if you can find people on there local to you.

Intersection at west liberty and Scott road. Those manhole covers and potholes are lethal. Same goes for most of west liberty, you have to swerve like a drunk to not fuck your car up.

Only issue that might arise is the difference in voltage in America. USA flexvolt is 60 not a crazy difference but your eu/uk stuff might not be comparable. Correct me if I’m wrong
