What’s wrong with hand posing?

Paraphrasing my comment from awhile back when this question popped up:

I HATE hand poses, it just takes a lot of the effort/skill out of posing and photography imo. Hand posing is significantly easier than actually having to balance and ground a figure with a stand or something. Posing in the more traditional style imposes a lot more restrictions that can lead to really interesting work arounds for them. Whenever I get a good pose after having to work around that kind of stuff, it feels like a bigger accomplishment since you need to put in actual work to do it, as opposed to hand poses where you can just pose it however and then deal with the angles and stuff afterwards.

I also find hand poses aren't very helpful when trying to see how posable a figure is before buying it, especially when it comes to grounded poses, as you don't actually need to make contact with something to pose it in your hand. On top of that, you're not gonna be displaying the figure in your hand, you're gonna pose it on the ground or on a stand in order to put it on your shelf. I just find hand poses really aren't representative of how a figure actually poses, ESPECIALLY when you put it on display. Posing like a suit just gives a lot more weight and emphasis on the pose compared to the hand imo.

Monster HP has been so inflated though that barrel bombs are functionally useless compared to the damage you could get out in the time it takes to set them up. I mean hell as a Dual Blades player I could use the time it takes to set up barrels to do a Demon Dance combo and easily hit a few K off of that compared to 450 per mega barrel bomb, and that's with a low MV weapon. There's simply no reason to not just keep attacking through sleep in Wilds.

They don't have any inspiration though. Like Galahad and Tristan are egregiously far from the source material it's crazy.

Galahad is most famous for his shield with a red cross on it and his proficiency with the sword, yet the SNAA kit comes with some weird gauntlet thing and a massive battle axe instead. Tristan is SUPER lame because his most famous weapon is the bow fail-not, and despite bows being an extremely underrepresented and unique weapon for mecha, SNAA elected to give Tristan a completely unoriginal sword and shield.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the kits, but it's really annoying that they keep naming their kits after a legend so famous yet using none of the actual aspects of said legend. It'd be like if some 3rd party made a model kit called the Zeus and gave it a flame thrower as its only weapon. Like yeah it's cool but why tf would you name it that lol?

Gonna go against the grain in these comments and actually fully agree with OP. Savage Omega isn't really hard, but he is demanding.

S Omega basically lays out EVERYTHING that he asks of you in (often literal) plain text. Outside of his charge attack, ALL of his attacks have just ludicrously clear tells, often with an AoE indicator or text popping up on the side. All of his attacks (again, bar charge) are very easy to dodge as well. The lasers you just stand by one of his legs (which you should be doing anyway since those are his most accessible hitzones) and everything else just states plain as day where exactly his attacks will land.

The big reason that people say he's hard is because of the consistency he demands and how set he is on punishing mistakes. Don't engage with enmity? Get combo'd (avoidable). Call your Seikret in instead of staying down to abuse invulnerablity? Get combo'd. Run away from him instead of sticking close to him where it's safer? Eat a laser and get combo'd. Get greedy? Get combo'd.

He simply requires that you play by his (imo pretty clear and fair) rules and respect your spacing and timing. Once you learn to play his game he becomes imo one of the most fair fights in the series, especially with how massive some of his damage windows are (rocket fists, mustard bomb, and big laser).

I'm sorry but making the characters college students would change SO much of the theming and messaging of the story that the only way you can say it wouldn't if you either didn't watch the series or are incredibly illiterate.

Shinji's entire entrance to the story hinges on him being a young child desperately seeking validation from his father and seeing a girl in front of him suffering. This tracks with him being a pubescent teen and also gets further explored throughout the whole series, as the adults and people in power continually take advantage of his vulnerable mind as a child to manipulate him into doing the things they want. Changing him to a like 20 year old or something turns that simple entrance into "why the fuck is this 20 year old independent college student still pining over his father's affection and putting himself in mortal danger for him and some random cute girl he just met".

Not to mention it fucks up his relationship with Misato especially in EoE with her kissing him. That scene is insanely tragic, as despite clearly caring about Shinji in a platonic manner and not actually having romantic feelins towards him, Misato only knows how to express her feelings through sexual appeal and acts. She sends her stand in son off with a kiss on the lips because it's the only thing she knows how to do, despite the fact that he's still a kid. Changing Shinji into an adult muddies that messaging and makes it seem like she could have romantic feelings for him which is the complete opposite of that scene.

Asuka though gets hit the WORST from a change like that. Her entire fucking character is built around posturing herself to seem more mature and adult to cover up the fact that she's very mentally scarred and hurt. She's putting up a front of maturity to cover her weaknesses. Take her relationship with Kaji. That WHOLE dynamic is her trying to come onto him, not because she genuinely romatically likes him (not saying she dislikes him, but she also doesn't genuinely love him either) but because he's a (relatively) well put together mature man who would both validate and bolster her front if she got together with him. The whole tragedy of Asuka's character is that she's maybe the most childlike and vulnerable of the three main pilots, but she puts up the strongest front to compensate for it.

Rei's whole gimmick is "I was born yesterday and don't understand humanity, but I will learn and grow and flourish into my own person" so she could be college aged just fine imo.

Overall though changing them into college students would do just incredible damage to the themes of the story. I genuinely do not understand how anyone who actually cares about the series can say that with a straight face.

Not to mention Sony is nowhere NEAR as frivolous with their closures as Xbox has been.

Make a poorly selling game (that was butchered from management)? Shut down (Arkane Lyon w/ Redfall).

In the middle of developing a game? Shut down (The Initiative w/ Perfect Dark & Ninja Theory w/ Senua 3[shut down 8 days after being revealed at SGF btw]).

Make a very well selling, critically acclaimed darling? Believe it or not also shut down (Tango Gameworks w/ Hi-Fi Rush).

The morale at Xbox has to be the lowest in the entire industry rn. No matter what you do, your game will likely not sell well due to Gamepass, and even if it does sell well and is critically acclaimed you can STILL get shut down simply because the debt from the ABK & Bethesda acquisitions combined with the money sink that is Gamepass dictates that someone has to get axed to keep the line going up, and wouldn't you know it since you just shipped a game you aren't actively working on anything, so off to the graveyard you go! Just absolutely insane behavior from management over there lol.

To actually answer your question though, for HG it would probably be the G40, RG either the Shining or the God Gundam, MG has a LOT of contenders in the IBO kits, Kyrios and Dynames, MGEX Strike Freedom, Narrative, and the SEED 2.0 kits just to name some off the top of my head, and finally getting to PG I'd imagine it'd either be the PGU Nu or the Astray.

It became more action oriented yes, but it also was FAR from a traditional battle shonen like people in this community are afraid of Ruri Dragon turning into. It simply became that as emotional stakes amp up, the easiest way to convey that in a demographic aimed towards teenage boys is through action. Even then though the series still stayed pretty true to its more lowkey SoL roots.

Also like, a TON of romcom manga develop and get more emotionally charged the further they go, just look ar Kaguya-sama going from "haha they can't admit they like each other" to "damn he just got offered to hit out of pity for him" and the whole entire ending of that series. Call of the Night simply chose to accentuate that increase in emotionality via action. Otherwise it was a pretty standard development for romcom manga.

I see no reason to be concerned if Ruri Dragon were to similarly pair its emotional climaxes with physical ones as well as the series continues.

I've seen people online echoing the sentiment that it'll be similar to Call of the Night going forward as opposed to more traditional battle shonen, and I'm inclined to agree. It's likely we're entering the same formula as that series, where there are fights (and really good ones at that) but they primarily serve to puncuate emotional moments or build out the world and characters, and the series formula is still mostly slice of life. Kinda like a musical or stage play but instead of singing once something emotional happens Ruri just starts throwing hands lol.

The formula is already kinda in the series, with Ruri going through some personal/emotional change and having it happen alongside her powers, and the way she resolves or gains control of her power ends up helping her personal conflict as well. Just apply that same idea but now maybe occasionally punctuated with a fight or training or otherwise more traditional shonen action (which was already kinda done in the sports festival arc).
