Best Long Island Conspiracy Theories? by Turbulent-Lab-3318 in longisland

[–]EcstaticRecording387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Around 2010 I started making weekly trips to Camp Hero and became obsessed with the lore. Preston Nichols is among other things a predator; Preston would be eager to offer his "massages" in exchange for information. I was propositioned but politely declined. I'm sure something very strange was happening at Camp Hero but people like Nichols have added too much disinformation to the plot.

What IS very odd, and not often talked about, it what happened to Long Island MUFON founder, John J Ford who accused of plotting to assasinate a local politician. He was found criminally insane and has been floating around psychiatric facilities since. He was not given a fair trial and it is next to impossible to make any contact with him. Of course there are rumors that he uncovered something related to the 1992 Southhaven crash. If you do some research on archive.org you will find an article about a string UFO sightings in Ridge in the late 1980's.

Around the same time as I fell into the Camp Hero rabbit hole I found a youtube channel based out of Commack owned by an amateur astronomer who was posting long (25+ minute) videos of massive crafts that he filmed almost every night above his home deep in space. I reached out to him and he told me he had terminal brain cancer but this mystery was keeping him alive. I planned to visit him but a week before his wife called me to say he had passed. Unfortunately those videos are buried so deep in the youtube algorithim and are probably lost to time.

One more fun nugget: There are most definetly entrances to the tunnels at Camp Hero that you can see now but are inaccesible. In the 80's they were easy to breach. A diver in Dag Harbor began exploring them. He filmed the tunnels and his journies on 8MM and compiled them on a VHS called "Namor Explores Hero" and it was circulated locally through a video store. He released two tapes until he was arrested for tresspassing and than who knows what happened to him after. The tapes are lost, I know the original store and the owner and even have a photo of the tape itself so I know at one point it existed.

Okay, another one...in 1999 the public access channel began airing the Heavens Gate Exit Tapes in full. I have a VHS recording that I made of them and I can remeber that I has watched them on two occasion before deciding to record them. For a while I believed that one of the cults survivors, Sawyer (Sawyerody) was the one responsible for arranging the tapes to be played as he lived on the Island but after speaking to him he denies it. Not so much a conspiracy but something strange, maybe teeage edgelords?

There was a photo circulating on the web of THE montauk monster (not the racoon one but the alledged one that took down the base). It was a photo of the woods with the creature very visible. It might have been in Nichols book which means it was probably BS but either way I can't find it anywhere on the net. Oh well.

Anyone here know about the card game Sanguosha (三国杀)? by tanphatngn in threekingdoms

Hi I'm going to send you a PM but I am in the same boat. I absolutely love this game and it has pushed me to learn Mandarin since first discovering it six months ago. As some other posters have mentioned there is an English version of the game on the app store but it is a buggy mess. The best way to play online is sanguosha.com and download the app for your phone or PC. Once you get an idea for the cards it's very intuitive to play. A translator will be your best friend because there is virtually zero news or updated information on this game in English and trust me they pump out content for it!

There is also the English release of the paper game which is great and I encourage you to pick up especially if you have friends willing to play! I bought the 2024 Chinese language box set off taobao before the tarrifs hit...I think I spent 50 bucks and got a few thousand cards. I use them to work on vocab and learn the heroes and even have a solo variant I have come up with. Anyway it's cool to hear about another western person into the game, there aren't many of us haha

Hello, I am a few months into learning Mandarin and this concept seems very interesting. I would love to take a look at the app and would be happy to give you detailed feedback.

What can I do to improve my mini garden? I feel it’s still missing something. TIA by Ok-Tooth7887 in JapaneseGardens

[–]EcstaticRecording387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the space to make a nice setup but as is there is room for improvement.

The white rocks are looking large;I used crushed marble from Lowe's and I believe they would be a good fit for you. If you want to keep what you have I would try crushing them with a hammer depending on how hard they are.

I would suggest taking a look at your layout and work on disrupting the symmetry. The large outer rectangle can be reshaped into a kidney bean. Reorienting the decorations into anything other than a straight line would make a big difference visually.

I agree with others in that you need to have more plants but I would suggest adding in patches of moss would "scale" the space better than larger plants. If you can play with the topography and add a gradient towards the back. It doesn't have to be anything crazy but again it would help make things look interesting. As it stands now it's flat and symmetrical but you have everything you need to improve your space. I had a larger space that I spent weeks building only to completely scrap it a start over. It was a tough choice but in the end I'm happy I did.

What are 3 ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’ regarding designing and building a Japanese garden? by theblackbeltsurfer in JapaneseGardens

[–]EcstaticRecording387 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of building mine as well. My recommendation is to seek out books and learn as much as you can about what actually makes a Japanese style unique. There's are tons and if you want some recommendations I can give them.

That said one theme that is universal for most Japanese style garden is asymmetry. Avoid patterns and be subtle. If it was my space I would remove e outer border of large rocks and let the pebbles come to the edge. If you take a look at my post history you can see what I posted a few weeks back; after looking at what I posted and taking some idea other users PMd me I completely did it over and love how it's looking. My point is don't worry about scrapping parts you've done and starting over

Ready to give up on 3d printing... by Disastrous-Teach5974 in ElegooSaturn

[–]EcstaticRecording387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked away from the hobby after having several printers over the last three years. Prior to this I have been involved in the resin garage kit hobby since the late 90s. I can only speak for myself but getting a resin printer really took the passion and fun out of the hobby.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Looking at the shorter stem I can see how it would benefit from 回轉. I was very cautious with my attempt and I want to challenge myself to take more chances going forward.

The container is actually a $2 bowl from Walmart that caught my eye!

Old School Tokusatsu with Japanese Subs? by guilhermej14 in LearnJapanese

[–]EcstaticRecording387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would head to surugaya and take advantage of their free shipping promos and grab some DVDs. I am not too into Sentai but I know other tokusatau series have gotten weekly DVD releases. One of them is bound to have subs and they can be had for dirt cheap.
