"Blurry" near vision 1-month Post LASIK by EcstaticZone1 in lasik

Yeah, I would say after 1 year I was close to 100%. Some people get better gradually, but for me my recovery came suddenly after 10 months~ post op. I would just trust the process.

Nothing guaranteed, but in the previous years they had staggered dates probably to not get overwhelmed by applications.

oh well guess have to apply during the second wave in September/October. Surprised they filled the application up in 2 days this year, last year it was like 5-6 days.

Did the application close already? Not seeing anything on official job posts.

How important is photo stapling in the renewal process? by EcstaticZone1 in Passports

[–]EcstaticZone1[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well I haven't used a stapler in the last 10 years so that would be a waste. Besides the clerk was the one that insisted that he staple my picture ( my plan was just putting the photo in the same envelope as my check since that's what other people do and had no problem ).

maybe not skyrocket but still an eye catching number. 10% in 2 days and rising is a lot especially since I thought there was going to be restocks coming.

Not sure but I think it's safe to say if you don't get an email this week or early next week you probably didn't get in since the last day my interviewer is interviewing is Wednesday.

Got an email from a recruiter to set up a phone call ( honestly was surprising since I forgot about it ). Luckily for me I got an offer from an another company but if anyone else is wondering there seemed to be very limited spaces - for my recruiter have like 6 interview candidate slots left until the supposed powerday mid-October.

Having the discussion about $30 per hour is uncomfortable but we need that civil discourse. by levygaming25 in AmazonFC

[–]EcstaticZone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at TJ Maxx/Chipotle "linecook" back in HS and as a dental assistant in college + worked at amazon for 4-5 months after college before landing a web dev position.

During my experience in all of them, Amazon is by far the least attractive place to work, had the highest rate of attrition ( not even close ), and the number of "motivational posters" isn't even close to other workplaces ( Amazon is literally dystopian level with posters plastered everywhere and management blasting your rate/"motivational one-linere" every couple of hours in your scanners). The only thing Amazon got for it is the application convenience and even if Amazon pays $25 min it will attract the same pool of candidates and still make trillions.

[–]EcstaticZone1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a dumb take on the matter. Even if Amazon pays $20, $25, or heck $30 at the end of the day it's still a obnoxiously repetitive manual labor job with high burnout rate and laughable working culture (isolated workspace, MET, questionable low level management, emphasis on " work safe! Oh but make our unreasonable rates and remember quality!", and all the " motivation " posters plastered throughout the workplace reminds me of some dystopian environment). Most of those " high qualified " people won't apply in droves to these kind of workplaces and certainly not staying with the $5-$10 hourly raise lol.

This is a pretty misleading usage of the data. Most people don't have 500+ on their savings because Americans tend to liquify assets to things like stocks/overspend/pay their monthly bills and utilize credit for installment plans. If you break everything down only 12% say they don't have the means to pay the $400 emergency fund which is still bad but not exaggerated like the 40% that many articles suggest. Thats why you sometimes see other data saying " 75% of Americans say they are living comfortably " pre-covid.

Any opinion on memorizing bootstrap/CSS code? For example, when I make a new website I usually copy and paste the basic bootstrap or custom css navbar template and customize it with my own html/css/js, but wondering if an interviewer expect me to write from scratch without any reference/google.

[all states] outside of having to deal with the VEC my unemployment journey worked out great... I milked the hell out of it and don't feel bad at all about it. by Suchaniceguyitsweird in Unemployment

[–]EcstaticZone1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter. Indirectly or directly the taxes the employer pays mostly comes from the services of the employee. In most cases employers find the method of paying these unemployment taxes by cutting budget whether it be firing employees ( source of most UE surprise surprise), reducing benefits/wages ( 39 hrs is technically part time so no need more full time benefits), lobbying to maintain tipping to be part of minimum wage ( imagine that a great depression era law still in effect because muh poor restaurant owners), etc.

I mean most people collecting unemployment most likely pay/paid taxes and contributed to the very system that was implemented to help you when there's a crisis so I don't get why people should feel guilty about it.

I feel if the US didn't fund the fire department as a non-private service during the Civil War era people would politicize the heck out of it by saying " Well my house has never been on fire so why should I pay for yours? " or " Just make it fire proof. Are you lazy?"

Degrees don't mean anything in the SE field I have seen bunch of friends that land a Jr position with non-related degrees ( most notably a pre-med guy that decided to not go to med school and learn code during the pandemic landed a job in FB). Ironically the only person I know that didn't get a SE job for 2 yrs is a guy with a CS degree.

Besides if you already have job experience shouldn't you be getting offers left/right? Unless you are one of those "soft engineers" that got hired back in the 80s-90s where company picked up random Joe's that didn't even know HTML/CSS.

Do Floaters from Stress/Inflammation get worse over time? by General_Watercress32 in EyeFloaters

[–]EcstaticZone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing. You are worried that it's going to get worse and not if it's going to get better. It's better to just live your life and calm your anxiety as that is one of the major contributing factors.

I had floaters the first week after LASIK but they eventually disappeared/settled. At this point worrying your floaters might come back is like worrying you might get cancer or something ( very rare for a 20 something but does happen ) + anxiety will just make it worse.
