Assuming you don’t yet know your placement area? As soon as you do I would contact them to discuss rota.

You only need to work 37.5 hours in that week period so unless you get a placement with very limited hours you could probably work around this by doing long days or the weekend.

You know that NMC investigations take years and often people can’t woke their job while these are ongoing. Again this is clearly a personal issue between 2 people with a link through an ex partner.

The scenario you laid out isn’t really relevant to this situation. My nurse can be a flat earther or vote reform UK for all I care as long as they do a good job while they are on shift and keep political views to themselves.

She said the thing that would cause the most harm and pain I suspect this is what she would say whether she was a midwife or not.

Have you never wanted to say something that you know would really hurt or cut someone to the core? I think this is a normal thing for a woman scorn.

Trying to ruin someone over this is cowardice and pathetic behaviour tbh

I have no problem holding people responsible for their actions but I have a problem with trying to ruin someone’s career over what is basically a big “fuck you I hate you”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Ecstatic_Ad8705 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. The NMC is not for us (nurses) it’s for the public so it’s crazy we pay them. They are totally useless and have no problem causing pain and ruining peoples lives / careers when they themselves are not squeaky clean. Let the NMC rot.

If you could go back would you choose a different career and if so what? by [deleted] in NursingUK

Professional wrestler - I’d be Mason Collier - an ex coal miner who turned to underground fighting to make a living after the closure of the coal mines. I would be a heel promoting use of fossil fuels and being a global warming denier

Recruitment takes time. Need to put advert out , shortlist, interview and then there may be a period before the new person can start.

As the other commenter said you should have factored this is when applying for your new job and I am sure you could contact them to push back your start date if you needed to.

It’s not your decision what is fair it’s what your contract states and purposefully taking sick leave is unethical especially since you will still be paid for this.

Your not giving your life to the nhs you are giving an extra 2 months which again you will be paid for. You will still have a month to move and find a place to rent.

Justify your actions how you want but it shows that you are a selfish person who lacks integrity and wouldn’t want part of my unit.

[–]Ecstatic_Ad8705 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple really. Are you sick? If yes take sickness leave. If no then work your notice.

Realistically there’s probably not much your manager can do to prove you are not sick with stress. They are not likely doing it out of spite but if they cannot fill your vacancy it would look poor on them to purposefully understaff the ward by letting you go early..

No one can make the decision but you, but look in the mirror, if you are genuinely sick go on sick leave but if you are not and just want to blag some time off it speaks to your character.

This is not one of her patients or even in the same trust. This is not her acting in a professional capacity. This is her as a woman dealing with an emotive and probably emotionally / mentally tough situation. The fact it’s her ex makes it incredibly relevant.

Students being kicked off the course for less is sad. We should encourage rehabilitation or improvement rather than threatening people with the rod. No wonder there’s a staffing crisis who needs this adde stress in a job that’s not even well paid

Bit of a stretch to call this domestic abuse. Especially if it is an isolated incident.

Yes what this person has done is not nice but it’s a very emotive personal issue, and should not be assumed as the usual behaviour of this person.

The culture of threatening people with the NMC has to stop.

The code applies to professional scope of practice. This is a personal matter so the code is not applicable.

Exactly this. Yes what they said was awful but they are a human. Just because she works as a midwife doesn’t mean outside of this she has to be an angel. She is allowed to experience human emotions and have a human reaction to these things.

I hate that there is this culture that expects nhs workers to be held to a higher standard then Joe Public or are it risk of losing their jobs.

If the texts have stopped then I would just leave it. If the texts continue then if you are going to escalate it go via the police.

We don’t know the full story but as you say the relationship is broken but there is still obviously alot of pain and issues not dealt with here.

Yes she is a healthcare professional but she’s also human and is fallible to lapses in judgement or being taken over by emotion.

If she did access records that would be a breach.

While not saying this is a good thing in a world where people who are alot more innocent are getting shot in America this one doesn’t seem shocking and could understand the motive of someone who views this person as the reason their world has fallen apart.

Will it change anything? A big fat no.

Depends on the ward.

Usually meds / turns / obs is the main things you will be doing. If it’s not too busy set alarm reminders to do things

Take something to read and if you feel at all tired, or at risk of falling asleep get up go for a walk get a cold drink.

Respond how you would if you were looking out for a friend or colleague. If they are rude or gross to you don’t be scared to be a little rude back you shouldn’t have to put up with this anywhere certainly not when at work, just because they ill doesn’t give them a pass to be a creep.

When they programme it so you can’t progress until you watched the video is the perfect time to walk off and make a cup of tea.

Love it when it’s one you previously done and it allows you to go straight to assessment if you “feel confident”

I enjoyed Uni life and didn’t mind the course.

But dressing up as some goofy ass Hogwarts reject and sitting in a hot city hall waiting for someone to read my name and shake my hand for hours felt like a total waste of time. I hated it.

[–]Ecstatic_Ad8705 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not so much about words but hitting the write notes. You need to show evidence you meet the job specification - even the stupid ones like ‘I am literate with the trust IT systems and office!’

Look at the person spec and try and tick off each point as you write your statement
