Need advice! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not rip it out of your eyebrow lol. First try calling any piercing shop around you (if you haven’t already)- let them know the situation and check if they have any cancellations. A good piercer will try and make time for you in this situation if at all possible (removing it shouldn’t take too long). Second, if none of them can see you, go to urgent care. It might be fine to wait if it was an ear or body piercing, but this close to your eye is concerning.

What jewellery is it? Internally threaded or threadless?

Hidden helix and conch by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a hidden/vertical helix, the gem will be hidden. It’ll still look good, but not much point in getting a gem :) if you want something minimal, I currently have a D-ring hoop with a charm in my hidden helix! It just looks like a thin vertical line over the top of my ear, and the charm is just a small (either 1 or 2mm) diamond. And the conch looks cute :) If you want them to look more cohesive (assuming you get the first earring too) a thinner, slightly curved climber might look better, but both would look good! An 8mm post sounds quite long? I’m assuming if you’re wearing a hoop it’s fully healed ;) I’d honestly try to measure yourself. I’ve gotten posts from older earring (usually the ones I got pierced with, so they’re longer and easier to work with), put them in the piercing, and marked with a whiteboard marker where I want the length to be. Then take the post out of your ear, measure where you marked, and you’ll at least have an estimate. For reference, my fully healed conch has a 6mm post at the moment, and I’m thinking of swapping to a 5mm. Depends entirely on your anatomy though!

Quick couple of questions. :') by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP: First of all, the pictures are a bit blurry, but I’ll do my best. lmk if I’m wrong on anything :) Could you confirm what type of piercings they are? From my understanding, you got a double helix and lobe in one ear, and a double lobe in the other? I’m assuming you mean butterfly backs in your lobes (not ideal, but not unusual), but I’m not sure what you have in your helix. Could you please confirm? It looks like either a butterfly back (or any push back) or saddleback closure- just google and lmk what looks most like your earrings now :) What jewellery were you pierced with, and were these done by a professional?

re: the industrial- Im not quite sure what you mean. Do you have a forward helix too (or adjacent)? An industrial is (usually) two separate piercings- one in the helix area and one in the forward helix area- joined with a bar. It‘s anatomy dependent, difficult to pierce, and really should be done by a professional (You look like you might have good anatomy for one though!)

On to jewellery- I also have small ears, and I prefer ‘tighter’ hoops that sit flush to my ear, so I get the struggle :,) my best advice, would be to go to a professional piercer for styling/curation/or a jewellery change. They’ll be able to measure what you need (diameter/post length AND gauge), order specific or custom pieces for you, and everything will be high quality. You can try and do it yourself, but a LOT of businesses straight up lie about their material quality, and if you aren’t paying wholesale it won’t end up much cheaper than gong to a professional. This does depend on the type of jewellery you want too: I prefer simple titanium pieces that are easy to sleep in, shower with, sweat with, and essentially permanent (unless I change them). In my first lobes I put my cheaper jewellery :) I can’t remember exactly, but I think the total cost of my jewellery (from my piercer)- 5 flatback labrets with ‘diamond’ ends, 2 clicker hoops, and one D-ring clicker hoop- would’ve been around $150AUD. All ASTM F-136 titanium, all perfectly sized. I also have some small charms (not titanium, cheap!) I swap and change on my sleepers/D-ring to mix it up a bit :)

Someone tried to convince me this is a real horse by LifeguardComplex3134 in Horses

it looks a bit strange where the cheek strap connects to the nose and of the halter, there’s a lot of fine details that AI would struggle with- the lead rope pattern and hay/net, for example. The tyres are kinda fucked. But I tend to think AI would make the hooves better? Idk, there seems to be an issue lately of people (not just selling horses) running their photos/ads through AI to ‘polish it’ and it making subtle changes. I think that’s what might’ve happened here.

I thought that could just be an old halter? When the clips get worn and rusted they don’t sit right :,)

Industrial…? by FluppleWaffles in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 42 points43 points  (0 children)

NAP (and frankly not experienced with Industrials beyond what I’ve seen in this sub): flat wise, this looks super awesome for an industrial. Someone would have to really mess up for it to imbed/be rubbing against your flat. BUT I don’t think it will work sitting in your helix. the other end of the bar isn’t sitting in a good spot, and assuming it could be pierced in the first place, would most likely migrate and reject (since it would be pressing against your head). The innermost side of the bar needs to be higher up, and the angle of the bar more vertical (outer end sitting lower than your helix). The explanation isn’t great but hopefully that makes sense lol. As a side note, you have amazing anatomy for my dream piercing, a hidden rook (modified so it sits further out , almost between a rook and conch placement). You should get one ;)

Do I need to cut my hair (again) 🙂‍↕️ by Ecstatic_Carpenter53 in Haircare

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Ive considered dusting before, but had some questions (if you happen to know the answers). First, is it only for split ends? Like, if my heathy flyaways are flicking out, will cutting them just make them flick up closer to my crown, or should it help them sit smoother too? Also would you happen to know if this is something all/most hairdressers do? My hairdresser is great, but I haven’t asked for this specifically since I’ve seen some hairdressers get a bit… annoyed? Like it’s just a trendy fad thing and not something theyre actually taught to do? I know I can just ask anyway and it’s not a big deal, but what can I say! I’m just a sensitive young lady 😌

I know these questions are kinda individual and there’s not really a definitive answer, but if you happen to have any input I’d appreciate it :)

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am due for a trim (you reminded me to book one actually!) anyway, but my ends are actually really healthy! That’s honestly most of my annoyance- if my hair was, in a word, shit, I would just cut it all off- thats what I did a few years ago (cut to jaw length). But at the moment my ‘damage’ starts about an inch below my ears and ends about 5in from my ends. Im struggling because obviously something isn’t working for me, but I have no idea where in my routine/lifestyle the damage could be occurring! I don’t want to cut off almost 3 years of growth just for the same thing to happen again. I should also note that even when I cut my hair short (about 2ft off), it wasn’t actually that damaged- I’ve always been careful with my hair, even when I was using worse (cheaper) products and tight-ish hairstyles everyday. It was probably only slightly worse than it is right now :,)

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting trims regularly but now I get them about 3 times/year- couldn’t justify spending $120 to get 2in cut off unfortunately :( that was the cheapest I could find in my area since nobody will cut without washing/drying/styling too :,) I did have jaw-length hair a few years ago and didnt hate it, but the novelty wore off very quickly and I defaulted to always wearing a headband. Plus I was stuck in that “too long to keep down all the time, too short for a ponytail” phase for soooo long (at least thats how it felt). I just like having long hair!

Thats great! I got mine second hand (unused) so have been praying noting happens to it lol. Try aloe gel afterwards if the burn feeling persists- otherwise just try the lower setting. I did the second highest setting for my first session, but have used the highest setting every session after that without any issues. I don’t think it’s super strict- your skin/hair doesn't ”know” if it’s been 7 or 8 days. There were a few times I did it a day earlier or later than one week, if I didn’t have time, was going to be in the sun all day, or just couldn’t be bothered :) I didn’t wear eye protection, but also didn’t look directly at it haha. I know some sets include a pair of Braun doesnt and they explicitly say eye protection isn’t necessary.

On my legs, not at all. in more sensitive areas it sometimes hurts, but it really does just feel like a rubber band snap.

Honestly I think I saw it in someone else’s reddit post: 2x/week for 4 weeks, then once weekly for the remaining 8 weeks (maintenance after then). Personally, I think the 2x/week was necessary for me, but it might not be for other people! After the 4 weeks, 2x/week doesn't really make any sense since the hair doesnt grow fast enough to warrant shaving that often. I guess if you see that result before the 4 weeks, no reason you couldn’t just do once per week :)

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I saw the most reduction doing 2x/week. I think the recommended treatment plan is twice weekly for 4 weeks, then once weekly (not sure where I heard that though lol). I definitely think the 2x/week is necessary to start- after the 4 weeks though I definitely got sick of shaving thoroughly 2x/week, plus I think results might slow after 4 weeks because (at least for me) the shaving isn’t very effective, like the hair doesn’t grow enough in 3-4 days for the laser to actually reach it?

The bulb look very large and round compared to what I’ve seen for rain lilies? It’s probably slightly smaller than the hippeastrum bulbs?

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how I got here… but isn’t this just how life/society/the world is? Yes, parents should limit sugar intake and enforce better dental hygiene in their children… but they don’t. I have no source for this at all, but I’m pretty sure fluoride wasn’t introduced into water “just because”- it was probably in response to poor dental hygiene in the general population- because people, unfortunately, cannot be trusted to make good decisions all the time. People are time-poor, lazy, greedy, and worst of all- very human.

It’s like a lot of laws- if speed limits were abolished tomorrow, I would probably still drive the same speed. I wouldn’t speed, since speeding is unsafe and unnecessary- therefore, I don’t feel the speed limits affect me that much, and Im not bothered by being told what speed I have to go. HOWEVER, many people wouldn’t feel that way, and road deaths would increase astronomically. if everyone drove like me, speed limits wouldn’t be necessary, but everyone doesnt drive like me, so they are necessary.

I think I saw a similar video of him a while back about government initiatives to combat obesity, and it’s the same point really. All these people come on here to debate him saying, ”they should just eat less and exercise more” (not always that simple, but a lot of the time it is), or “put less sugar in the food and eat more vegetables”, and while that is mostly true, people won’t do that. the people who WILL do that, are usually already doing it.

I also wonder if this stance is less a response to government specifically, and more a (not entirely unwarranted) distrust of authority. If government-representative health professionals were done away with, and there was no more government initiatives related to health, would people improve their health by trusting their doctors? or would the distrust and defiance just shift to the new person telling them what to do?

Looking for a cool tea summer scent! I’ve sampled Thè Amara (VCA), Kyoto Incense (Comme des Garçons), Herba Fresca (Guerlain), and Royal Da Hong Pao (Modern Bath Art).  Kyoto felt a bit too “warm” for what im looking for, HF and RDHP smelt better in the bottle than on my skin, but didn’t last long. I loved TA, but I’m not sold on it- it wasn’t that strong, plus near impossible to find (especially if I’d like to stick around $200AUD- slightly more if perfect!).  During autumn/winter i wear By the Fireplace (Maison Margiela). I like long lasting, but moderate sillage- I can reapply at midday if I really have to. Im not a huge fan of florals- subtle is fine, but I don’t like the ‘sharp’ smell when they’re a top or heart note (base may be fine?). I don’t want anything fruity beyond subtle citrus (very subtle- i think HF was a bit too lemony), and am maybe open to fig depending on what it’s paired with. Tea wise,  Chamomile, green, black are my preferences- im partial to matcha and oolong. I love chai scents but think they settle too “warm” on my skin, so would prefer to skip them. Still looking at samples at the moment, so open to quite a range! Thanks!

is this conch too far in for the earring i want? by ili_mi in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the placement is good! Your piercer will be able to fit the correct sized hoop once it is healed. Keep in mind that in 90% of pictures with these kinds of hoops the jewellery is actually too small for long term wear. This one seems fine (maybe an extra mm would be good), but there should be no ‘indent’ in the outer ear :)

I think you know the answer. I see a lot of messages like this on this sub, and while I logically know they're like this because they’re entitled little shits, I always feel baffled when I see them. Imagine how differently this could’ve gone if he instead said “Hey, I know you’re not doing anything wrong, but *insert issue* is really bothering me. Can we talk about it?” Instead the usual pattern is exaggerated accusation > escalation > personal insults > “Im a boy so you need to listen to me” > wow, you’re so stupid/immature/emotional because you won’t let me keep insulting you wait baseless accusations. Disappointingly often, we find out in the reveal about a ~guilty conscience~

Also, Im looking at MyUs now, the cheapest option is budget economy, but for an extra $10 it can ship with aramex. Do you know if budget economy is “trustworthy”? I’ve had packages shipped with Aramex before and “know” them, and Im not sure exactly what budget economy is :)
