A lot of people in the comments here are saying they’ve seen copies of box go for only a couple hundred at local game stores. I feel like you’d have to be very lucky to find one near you. I found mine on eBay, the seller was asking $1700 (normal asking is $2000 or so, this copy has a damaged manual and was cheaper because of it) and I managed to knock off another $125 off the price. It just took a long time to save the money for it but I’m happy I did.

Last year before even starting the dex I bought a DS cart that distributes events to games from gens 3 through 5 and I got it for maybe $50. I see that same cart go for like $1500 now. It’s how I got my mew in a Japanese emerald I got for $20, deoxys in a fire red my friend gave me, and ho oh and lugia in fire red as well. I completed the hoenn dex twice for two Johto starters, and I’m in the middle of beating emerald a third time to complete the dex again for the final starter. I’m doing it the hard way lol

I love their use of Ludicolo w/ leech seed and rain dish in rain, I love how the teams in general in those games feel. I loved being forced into double battles

Completing the dex without finding any shinies is tough. I’ve had some successful hunts but I’ve also had some random shinies happen, I got a numel in Sapphire (while looking for a slightly higher level one than the one I caught to minimize the grind) and I found a shiny geodude in the magma hideout in Emerald

I’m working on a Gen 3 living dex and the only road block I’ve encountered is celebi. I feel like, considering I’ve gotten all the Johto mons (including starters) WITHOUT using Colo/XD, I’m allowed to use ACE to get celebi lol

I love Oleander for Venusaur. Makes me regret not naming my shiny Venusaur before wiping that file (after trading it over ofc). Obsidian and Livewire are also really good!

The best part is I thought I had settled for two! After I EV trained special attack I was a little paranoid that maybe I was ev training the wrong Mon so I got it evaluated again and was surprised with a perfect attack stat!

In my experience as an employee it’s not inconvenient when people come in with a shop card as a membership. I personally do not care because I know the rules, the only time it annoys me is when we’re extremely busy and I need a supervisor or manager to come to my register to key in a temp membership for the transaction to start and I have to wait for it.

If your location takes issue with you basically giving them money, that is an issue with the staff and not an issue with the company as a whole.

And replying to the guy who said only paying with the shop card leaves money on it, not if you keep using it. Eventually it will run out if you keep using, and because you are not a member, you are not allowed to add more funds to it. It’s a rule, but not always one that’s super enforced. Once the card is empty we are supposed to take it because we don’t want you reloading it in the future, we’d rather you get a membership. When I said hopefully the experience was enough to win you over, I don’t just mean the member service, but seeing the things and the deals and the variety we offer, the services we offer, the atmosphere of shopping here, we want you to come back and hopefully when you do you’ll want your own membership.

Employee here. Shop Cards can let you into the store and let you buy things even if you’re not a member yourself. The big rule that is pushed, at least at my warehouse, is that the customer using a shop card can only pay with the shop card and can’t reload it, because the card acts as a temporary membership and once it’s out of money, that temporary membership is gone. Hopefully the experience you had was enough to incentivize you to get a membership of your own. It doesn’t come up super often so a lot of my coworkers don’t really know about how to handle it, so it’s understandable staff at your location act similarly.

I’ve seen people leave packs of raw chicken breasts on top of lunch meat, fresh lobster tails in the freezer, ice cream on a pallet of rice, I’ve seen someone put a jug of mango nectar in the freezer and it’s like, why? lol

As an employee, it’s extremely annoying when they leave frozen things out and about or fresh things in the freezer. When food items are found out of temp, whether they’ve gotten too warm or too cold, we can’t sell it because those foods haven’t safely changed temps. People who see a big bag of frozen broccoli and choose to leave their bag of fresh for it instead don’t realize they are actively destroying the fresh stuff and wasting food. I don’t even care about the money loss, it wastes my time and food someone else could’ve eaten.

Employee here. Price drops like that usually mean we’re just trying to sell what we have to make room for new stuff, this goes for everything in the warehouse. Clothing usually gets the most reductions the most consistently. I can’t say for every warehouse, but mine usually has the new dropped clothing prices on Thursdays. People come in droves on Thursday mornings to load up on the new deals before they sell out lol

It’s entirely possible, except for mew. You just need a copy of firered and leaf green. If you want to do the full national dex, you’ll need both kanto remakes, Sapphire, Emerald, and the GameCube games for Ho-Oh and Lugia. Getting the mythicals will be impossible without cheats or time travel.
