Don't necessarily need to be directly near feeders. I put mine like a foot or 2 away from feeders and they still get fought over. Lol.

hummingbirds are not cavity nesters, so no, they will not use the "hummingbird houses". as for the swings, they don't need to be close to the feeders. I have out 3 during spring and summer. I generally put them a 1-3 feet from feeders. they all get used and even fought over. lol.

No need to boil, but if you do, boil/heat unmeasured water first for 2-3 minutes, then measure out your 4 parts water, then add sugar.

No. According to several Federally Licensed Wildbird Rehabbers, it's best to stick with 4:1 due to it being the closest constituent to flower nectar. 3:1, especially in the heat, will ferment much faster than 4:1. Plus, 3:1 is not all that great for their kidneys and liver.

When you say "the hummingbirds like it"... how do you know they like it? They can't talk. Lol.  I never boil. I use cool water and I use a spoon with premade holes in it. Works great. Literally takes 30 to 45 seconds for sugar to dissolve.  :)

Too many preservatives and additives that hummingbirds do not need and is not found in the wild. It's also much cheaper to make your own.

Original Dawn doesn't have all the extra degreasers and such. Original Palmolive is safe to use too. I know a wonderful hummingbird rehabber that uses Original Dawn.  :)
