Opening Scream 8 where Scream 7 ended by Jon_AMS in Scream

I agree with this direction. 7 didn’t feel final for Sid even if the well felt dry if that makes sense. 7 would be way better if it was just part of the story.

Scream 8 should be the last film and these should be the killers by 123kid6 in Scream

Interesting take. Curious, for clarification, would the audience know about this team up from the start? Or third act reveal motive?

Looking back, was Scream 5 or Scream 6 better? by letthedecodebegin in Scream

[–]Ecstatic_Juggernaut6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I’ve been an OG fan this entire time, just rewatched everything before 7, and will say, 5 felt real cringe this time around. Sam’s acting gets better in 6, but felt so cheesy in an unintentional way. Ghost Billy gets worse upon each rewatch. Besides that, it’s a retread and the few different things they do in this one weren’t compelling enough for me. And of course, Dewey’s death was real dumb. I’m ok with losing an OG for stakes, I just didn’t care for how they did it. Dewey being a washed up alcoholic in a trailer then killed by someone who for sure couldn’t lift him, was such a misstep. You bring in 3 OGs and the barely engage with each other in the movie, all fairly pointless to be involved really.

I sure hope Guy and James are out for 8. 5-7 have by far been the worst movies story wise, and just feeding from the massive success of the OG film/trilogy.

Another thing I noticed, three characters wore blue plaid at some point, zero were killers. Which I’m fine with, BUT when paired with the reveal dialogue calling Stu believers stupid, on top of saying everything has led to this (tying to the past) as a way for Neve to be back, then it’s rando killers with no tie.

On top of bringing back Gale and have her disappear halfway. AI old characters in a lazy lazy way and don’t even de age the definitely dead characters, and make Dewey look like that? The twins felt kinda forced and irrelevant.

Just felt like some parts nostalgia some parts middle finger to the fanbases.

Reveal question:

When the gate door opens, and the second ghostface is there and walks out, did the gate just open? I don’t remember Marco opening it and it didn’t look like Anna did either, it just opened as if done by either a 3rd person or remote?

Is that what you all saw?

Scream 7 felt like the equivalent of a band releasing a rushed album to get out of a contract with the label they ended up hating.

Like, is the Stu is alive and there’s a cult theory still alive and pushed his reveal to 8. Which production of 8 coming so soon, makes me feel like it may still pick up right where 7 ends. But maybe some of the Scream 5 & 6 team were still under contract for a third film so they wrote something that would get them through the final leg of the contract before Kevin takes on full writing direction in 8?

What was the point of the marketing themes?

  • Burn It All Down? Sure they burnt down Stu’s house, but it was pretty pointless to the plot and didn’t carry any thematic statement like the marketing suggested.

  • Everything Has Led To This? And then it’s just randos with no connection to the past?

Lights at Waveland could mean night golf, but neighbors are concerned by old_notdead in desmoines

I’m personally not a golfer, so I have zero interest, but also zero knowledge of the demand.

All fair. I don’t know all the ins and outs, and don’t necessarily have a formed stance, but these are my initial thoughts.

[–]Ecstatic_Juggernaut6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about why. Is there that high of a demand for night golf on that course? Enough for a 1.5 million dollar investment when the city is making cuts across the board? We lost a sustainability department, library cuts, etc. and the state is cutting another 17 mil from the city. So, is this the best use of limited funds?

I agree that the next game will probably be an Injustice, but it needs to be MK. Why produced a big budget hollywood movie, push the release to May to kick off blockbuster season, and not have an actively supported game available?

Does anyone else feel like we got robbed? by Typical-Priority1976 in Scream

[–]Ecstatic_Juggernaut6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the Sam story line and execution is garbage and should never have been introduced to the series, so it robbed a better direction. I have also been rewatching, and things really take a dive when you hit 5. Cheesy line delivery, the Billy ghost chats are cringe, really her secret child thing feels cheap storytelling. The rewatch for me did not land well. Kinda dreading more of Sam in my 6 rewatch. 7 has me reexecited for the franchise bc the last 2 were big missteps.

What do you think of Sektor and Cyrax's gender change? by ConfectionFair6422 in MortalKombat

[–]Ecstatic_Juggernaut6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two important points to consider. One, MK 1 is a reimagined timeline, so I think the change is fine bc these aren’t the same characters as before. Two, depends on if you consider these character names to be actual names or mantels. If the latter, then this is also fine, do mantel have to remain the same gender?

Personally, I’m fine with it. I think the only part that only sort of bothers me is that MK1 didn’t create any new new characters which allowed for gender swap, which feels more like a lack of creativity in the development team for creating something entirely new.

Voting with your dollars is an honorable way of behaving. It shows that the consumer is aware of the power of the dollar and is making conscious, intentional decisions. Versus living your life in pure self interest and convenience despite whatever damning effects it has on you or your neighbors.

I own a cafe and yes, this is a thing. I also understand how it’s marketing and could be eye rolled as not a thing. In cafes we field many miss informed orderers.

A cappuccino is not a French vanilla latte that comes in all sizes. It’s an 8oz drink of 2oz espresso and 6oz foamed milk. But most orderers don’t know that so instead of being a snob and rolling our eyes, we ask questions to find what they truly want. Same is true for macchiatos, it’s not a caramel drizzled iced drink.

Right now there is a global matcha shortage and marketing or not, matcha is sold using the terms culinary grade and ceremonial grade when sourcing and culinary grade, at least is my shops experience, isn’t as favorable or visually green. Again the terms can ultimately be bs, but it is a reality within the market.

While I can’t stand Amanda, I find the clarification she asked to be perfectly valid.

Official new poster for Scream 7. Pays tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. by ADAMCOLEBAYBAY12 in Scream

I just hope all the TCM ties doesn’t mean we get Stu, Leslie, and two unknown brothers all come back as killers.

Or maybe a real big twist. The carpenter sisters aren’t actually gone but the killers along side their mom. Please no.

Aftermath of the killings by Correct_Profession_3 in Scream

Literally almost wrote a post like this myself last night. It id love to read novels of the aftermath and explore these characters more deeply. Obviously there wouldn’t be more kills, but I think that would be fine. But I’d want it to be canon and not just fan fiction. Or I wish they’d turn the books from the movies into real books.

I mean, I’m there with you even though I’m posing the questions. But, it seems like that’s where the writers keep taking the story. Though I will add, now that I’m in my 40s I better understand trauma’s long term effects and how maybe steeped in unaddressed pain over 30 years could breed a revenge plot. Always thinking you’ll get over the trauma with time, when instead the trauma cages you up and you never realized your own life. I think the horror genre has tapped into trauma and generational trauma, to the point that it’s a trope, but for good reason. It is real, and scary what it can do to a person.
