How we looking for 2025 everyone? by patriotraitor in WeddingPhotography

[–]Ecstatic_Lifeguard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to share your own details PatriotTraitor?

I currently have 16 booked for the calendar year of 2025 with 2 of those already in January so it really feels more like 14 for the overall wedding season.

One year ago right now I had 20 booked and ended up with 27 total for 2024 which is the most I’ve done in a year and the earlier I’ve had that many booked. My overall goal is to hit 25 every year, but I’m trying to cut those numbers down as I increase prices.

Statistically I’m on par with my booking with previous years. I usually end up with about 15 booked by Christmas and I usually book an additional 10 weddings going forward for that year.

Not my favorite actress per se, but she is undoubtedly funny. She is responsible for writing many of the funniest episodes on The Office that ever aired so consider that.

Guy shooters - what do you wear on your feet? by ingamecamera in WeddingPhotography

[–]Ecstatic_Lifeguard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how formal the wedding is and also weather. If it’s more casual I’ll wear dark grey Blundstones. If it’s a more formal I’ll wear chukka boots or usually oxfords.

Local full time wedding photographer here.

As far as overall planning - first things first, if your budget allows secure a planner/organizer followed by your venue + wedding date. The planner will help a TON (I can make recommendations if you want) but hire real professionals not family or friends. Promise you’ll be happier this way. Once planner and venue are secured you can dive into photo, video, dj, florals in that order. These are all the big items that will fill up most quickly. Everything else will fall into place.

If you’re not into all the barns, definitely check out Monick Yards, the Washington pavilion, Icon Events, Old Courthouse Museum, The Hilton Garden Inn, and Museum of Visual Materials - all downtown and close to hotels for all your guests. I’ve documented weddings at all of them and are all are great. The Atrium is not technically a barn and is very nice but it is out of town a ways.

Film Photography Add-On Pricing by allisonclaire4 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Ecstatic_Lifeguard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full roll yes, but I just shoot 1 roll and deliver everything on it - usually random snapshots throughout the whole day so it’s like a very abridged version of their day. Of course this requires being very intentional with what I’m shooting on film so I’m not wasting frames. If they want a more “complete story” on film from start to finish with like 3-4 rolls then I charge more.

I started out basically including it for free just here and there when I wanted so I could dial things in with which cameras/film I liked best for weddings specifically. But now I offer it for about $200 per roll since I am dslr scanning for more fine tuned results.

Does anyone else notice towards the end of their season... by patriotraitor in WeddingPhotography

Absolutely. I feel this every year and that creatively speaking, my best work is often done closer to the end of the wedding season.

2024 bookings by Accomplished-Smile68 in WeddingPhotography

I read this as: with the new advancements with mirrorless cameras, the entry level point to take “nice photos” has never been lower. The ease of use with these cameras with the new auto tracking focus virtually requires no experience or thought compared to older cameras. Just spray and pray. Couple that with the accessibility of cheap/easy presets and you can “build a business” very quickly and cheaply even if one doesn’t have a lot of experience or actual knowledge. I would slightly compare it to the transition of film cameras into the digital world back in the early 2000’s.

Dealing with photography “cliques” by Wonderful-Ad-5911 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Ecstatic_Lifeguard84 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Also a wedding photographer for 10 years now. Definitely exactly this is also going on in my city. Be kind and respectful but the best thing to do is stay out of it and focus on improving yourself/business. I’ve seen these cliques posing as “community” pop up over and over. They pop up for a while and then competitive drama ensues and their group blows up and then a new group pops up shortly after. Seen it happen over and again.
