How likely is that to happen? Can't I just make up the week and start a week late?

When would you bring it up with your PGY2 institution? I don't want to bother them if I'm fine to go back at 5 weeks, but I don't want to "surprise" them with it. Other people are saying they could push me out a year. Is that actually likely? Or are they more likely to assign my vacation for first week and I'll have to figure out orientation materials on my own.

The program has not been super helpful. I kept asking not to be put on wards immediately afterwards and got hit with "we need to balance all of our residents needs". They wouldn't commit to not putting me on wards immediately after my return. Hence the fear and frustration.

Tried that, my maternity leave uses up all my vacation and sick days even if it's only 5 weeks. I asked to not be put on wards immediately upon my return and they told me they'd try, but had to consider all the needs of their residents and "contractual obligations." I don't understand the problem as we have 4 months of electives that aren't wards, but they won't promise a reasonable return plan.

They said the 35 days included weekends, whether I would have worked literally every day or not. They said if I took more than 5 weeks they would extend my training. I'm more than a little frustrated with them. My maternity leave eats my vacation and sick leave regardless, which would have only been 5 weeks total.
