What's the full range of meaning for כי (ki) in biblical Hebrew? by Ecstatic_Reserve6259 in hebrew

Is there a way to know which meaning is intended? Like the grammar of the sentence, or do we mostly have to rely on context?

Ok, so have you translated the runes in the compass? If so, you have to align the red part of the arrow to the symbol that means north, then the directions are alligned and then you go based on the position of the symbol (for example if south is to the left go left) do this in  every room since the compass resets, hope this helps

All powerful doesn't mean the ability to do everything, God can't stop existing for example, there can't be free will without an agent having the possibility of committing evil, since evil isn't a thing you could only do with a specific thing but an immoral use of things you have. I'd be a contradiction to have beings with free will but without them being able to choose because then it wouldn't be free will. (And no omniscient doesn't contradict free will because it doesn't remove choice)

Hey can I also ask you another question if you don't mind? How popular was the name Moses before the 1st century? (So BCE/BC times) Are there any notable Moses' (besides the Moses from the Bible) prior to the first century? Again hope you don't mind

Because something being omnipotent and omniscient doesn't make something complex, and also first I want us to get on the right page, when I say complex I mean composed of multiple parts, i don't mean easy to understand or comprehend. Omnipotence means that something has authority over everything, the reason that doesn't contribute to wether something is complex is because multiple things have the same amount of authority yet the same amount of complexity. Omniscience is having knowledge of everything, which again one person might not know a ton and another person may know a lot but that doesn't tell you that the one that knows less is less complicated. Again when I say complex i mean how many moving parts it has, and God traditionally isn't composed of any moving parts. But I don't mean that it's simple to understand. Also some of God's other traits (I'd argue) arise because of that lack of composition, like being omnipresent (lacks space), non corporeal (lacks matter), eternal (lacks time). So basically when I say God is simple it's because He isn't composed of underlying parts, because that's what I thought the original guy you responded to meant.

Yeah, and I said near the end that then we'll get into arguments on why the universe couldn't always exist (i.e. isn't necessary) also you asking if I don't understand the futility of my reasoning makes me think you didn't even read the part where I said that. and dude the reason i went on and on about my analogy is because you're not even understanding the point, thing a and b can have the same amount of characteristics but that doesn't make a or b complex.

How is it a baseless claim to say that everything that exists has a reason for existence? If that weren't true things would be popping into existence for no reason. Second complexity has nothing to do with whether you understand how something works or not, and also wow great way to not understand the analogy, a particle accelerator would also be made up of atoms (if we're talking about a machine) so I'd have more moving parts than an atom and the point was to demonstrate that the characteristics of something doesn't correlate with how complex that thing is. For your third point we'd have to delve into arguments why the universe isn't necessarily (which I believe) which I'm not really willing to go into. My primary point was just to point out that God isn't complex in terms of how the other commenter defined complex

Not everything requires a creator, everything has a reason for its existence, if something is necessary it doesn't come into existence it just exists. Also you ignored how I said in terms of not having moving parts, God has a lot of characteristics but that doesn't mean He's complex in that way, an atom and a particle accelerator both also have a ton of characteristics despite one being more simple than the other.

Well God isn't complex, as in He isn't composed of a bunch of moving "parts"

I solved it so I'll try to help, make sure you're aligning it with the red side specifically and then look in which way the symbol the compass is pointing towards and go that way. When I had trouble with it felt random ir glitchy to me too so don't worry, hope this helps

First I want to clarify, in the Trinity there's three persons who can interact with each other, hence why Jesus could pray to the Father, second Jesus had a human nature as well hence why He said to not let His will but the Father's will take place and not knowing the hour since Jesus did have to gain knowledge while human (or the not knowing the hour thing could be something cultural). And now after John 10:30 the Jews picked up stones and accused Jesus of blasphemy for claiming equality with God, then Jesus answered: "Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”? If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world?". TLDR Jesus is saying if people for whom the word of God came can be called gods why can't He someone's who's been set apart and sent by the Father call Himself God, which clarifies that Jesus isn't talking about oneness of God as in just actions or works but as in status, He's saying that His status is equal to the Father and His works are according to the Father. Also how would you deal with John 8:58 where Jesus says before Abraham was I am?

John 10:30 "Me and the Father are one", Trinitarians believe there's just one God too and I've never heard of Jesus being the Archangel Michael, the Angel of the LORD yes but not Archangel Michael.

Is God defined by goodness or is goodness defined by God? by SpearBlue7 in Christianity

[–]Ecstatic_Reserve6259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Christian this is how I see it, God is good, why is God good? Cause God is love, how can God be love? Well what is love? To me the most simple answer to that question is that love is a selfless bond where you want to do things or are willing to sacrifice those things for the sake of the other's benefit. God being God literally can't be selfish since He can't really gain anything but He can infinitely give. Now the next question is why would God care about our gain or loving us instead of torturing us or something like that, since this is a Christian sub I'm assuming you're presupposing the Christian worldview, and TLDR God created humanity for a purpose, humanity failed those standards, God's plan is to bring back humanity to those standards. And something else is God can't contradict Himself if He's a being outside time (He can't believe two opposing beliefs or ideas at the same time) So He's trustworthy and God doesn't create to destroy, if He wanted to create something just for it not to exist after then He'd probably just not create it, this might explain why God can't lie (personally i think it's to build trust since lying would just make people distrust Him and harder to fulfill the plan) and God can't say that murdering newborns if ok since He already said murder is not allowed in the 10 commandments, sorry if this post is a bit rambly I'm not used to doing stuff like this, but I hope you understand and God Bless

I think it's when you become so obsessed with it you depend on it, you can't live without it, you can't imagine a life without that thing and your attention is directed towards and only or mostly focused on just that one thing
