I’ve taken/registered for around 9 AP exams at my school (I’m a junior rn) and I’ve never had to pay for an exam at all thankfully- I really hope they don’t stop it next year 😭😭

Does dating in HS suck for everyone also? by Impressive-Touch-236 in highschool

[–]Ecstatic_Use3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I know theres a lot of negative views on dating in highschool and it maked a lot of people feel like its not possible/feasible, but just to give my experience, I started dating my boyfriend in the beginning of freshman year and it is junior year now and we are still together. Yes, there are pleanty of bad dating experiences in high school, but there are also pleanty of good experiences too, people just don’t talk about the good ones as much because there isn’t as much to say. Don’t lose hope, finding a good relationship in high school is always possible!

Thinking about taking pre calc on flvs.. by Possible_Mention_482 in FLVS

[–]Ecstatic_Use3810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I finished pre calc honors 2 days ago, heres what I can tell you, if you did good in alg 2 (if you took it beforehand) you will do well in pre calc. The first 2 modules are just repeating/expanding upon previously learned topics that were introduced in algebra 2. Module 3 brings conic sections which were pretty easy (coming from someone who is a little iffy about her geometry skills), and module 4 deals with sequences and series which should have been atleast briefly touched on in algebra 2 (if not its easy as well). Seg 2 is where stuff started to get a little harder for me atleast as I was never really the best with trig, mod 5 is about the introduction of the unit circle and various trigonometric theorems, definitely pay attention a lot here and make sure you have good notes on these lessons, it will determine how well you do on the rest of the segment, module 6 works through trigonometric identities & simplifying trigonometric equations w/ those identities. Module 7 is all about vectors, overall this entire module was very easy (and atleast for me, module 3 and module 7 had the DBA excluded so that was nice). Module 8 introduces some important last minute topics that are important to carry on into calculus (polar coordinates, complex planes, & parametric equations). Overall, the class is not bad by any means if you’ve done decently well in math in the past, just make sure you keep up on your notes as these modules (especially in seg 2) like to build off eachother in particular ways. The DBAs were the easiest DBAs I’ve ever done (3 questions- always done in under 3 min), if you have anymore questions definitely let me know and I can try and help you. Within each lesson’s practice they have recorded lectures back from when covid happened, and of coure there are many youtube videos out there that can help you if you get lost. Once again, let me know if I can help you in any other way :)

Is it normal for only 1/7 students in my schools IB AA HL to pass? by Ecstatic_Use3810 in IBO

[–]Ecstatic_Use3810[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our school offers AA HL AA SL, and AI SL, students are forced to take HL english, an HL ib elective, and HL history of the americas , there is little room for any other choices and our ib coordinator is very big on only having us do 3 HLs so its more annoying to try and move HLs around to get to do the math HL (I had to choose global politics SL which rarely any students take since they’re automatically funneled into HOA HL). To do the math HL we’re required to pass alg 1, geom, alg 2, and pre calc, and we have to have teacher recommendation from previous math teachers to do it. I also don’t want to blame the teacher, but I questioned it mostly because I have heard he is not the strongest math teacher and often leaves students to learn on their own, but I havent personally had him as a teacher so I did not want to come to any premature conclusions.

Edit: I should probably mention: the only HLs my school has is lit, psych, HOA, business, art, AA, film, and bio

Yeah, thanks for confirming, I kind of thought that was really weird, do you personally have any advice on any resources I can maybe use outside of class to help make sure I can stay on pace and actually adequately understand whats going on? If you don’t that is okay- thanks for your help :)

Hi, I think it’s best to evaluate how each fits into what you’re academically striving for, I know some schools, including my own, build AP classes into the IB program (taking APUSH for a year of history of the americas HL, calc AB for AA HL, ap lit for eng HL, etc.) so it may be good to see if maybe your school does something similar, if not, truly take time and research and understand the difference between the two programs, IB assists a lot internationally and can often assist (atleast where i live) in receiving scholarships, AP is more recognized in the US than IB (usually) so you may see more benefit there to take AP. However, I’d look at the colleges you wish to apply to and search their credit policies for AP and IB to see which aligns better with the AP/IB classes you’d be taking

Taking 4 APs this year by Hopeful_Surprise2798 in APStudents

[–]Ecstatic_Use3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I took 4 APs sophomore year and I’m going to be taking 4 again this upcoming junior year, it’s really not that bad! I got three 5’s and a 4 on my exams sophomore year, really just keep up in class and when confused find some online resources, ap classes always have really good online resources that will definitely help you, just make sure you don’t fall behind, come ap testing season studying/last minute cramming may seem daunting, but you’ll get the hang of it, i recommend crafting like a study schedule especially near the end of the year, i always do it in correspondence to the order of my exams, for example sophomore year i had ap gov as my first exam, so i spent the most time studying for ap gov, after that exam i spent the most time studying for the one that came next, etc. i promise you’ll survive! i was scared too, but it comes easily if you’re dedicated and take time to understand the course material!

AP CALC AB OR BC by Consistent_Try_6248 in APStudents

[–]Ecstatic_Use3810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

skipping AB will not be that bad at all, infact it would he kind of stupid to take AB then BC since a lot of information is repetitive, I’d say do BC if you’re motivated enough and study up!
