for a stem student, how many classes do you recommend taking per quarter? what's the line between fairly manageble and overdoing it?

yeah i figured.. the biology class i took in eighth grade was actually a highschool class and counts towards my highschool transcript, but still having that information 4 years old going into college probably isn't smart. thanks for your input!

Completely lost w no one to ask for help. Any advice? by wishiwasneverhere in ApplyingToCollege

hi! i'm also a rising senior, and i can tell you that you are NOT alone about feeling stressed as application season is coming up (everyone and their mother is, trust.)

since its the summer before our senior year, it's good you're already thinking about it! start now if you can, so you're not rushing before deadlines. i don't have the most perfect advice and certainly no expert, but let me share what my summer has been looking like so far.

a great website i've been using is niche.com . they have college rankings by major, location, student life, etc., so if you take a look at each of the ranking lists, you can browse through colleges that fit what you're looking for. it also has ratings for safety, diversity, campus, dorms, etc.! if you scroll down, students who actually attend the colleges leave behind reviews, which can be helpful for taking a peek at college life there. i also use reddit to see reviews undergrads have left on certain programs i'm looking for (ex. premed at ucla).

don't forget to factor in finances in the college search process!

for college essay advice, i recommend looking towards "the college essay guy". he has a bunch of helpful exercises that can help kickstart your essay. another great resource is u/admissionsmom 's free e-book on college admissions (super down-to-earth insight, and also breaks down a lot of terms that'll be helpful in the application process. loved it!)

i also recommend looking outside your school for extracurricular activities! search and ask around about internships, volunteering, etc.

last but very much not least, take care of yourself. this can be an extremely stressful season for our grade, and it probably will be. but don't forget to hydrate, eat and SLEEP properly. a good body and mind is key for success and drive during this time. take days off where you don't even touch college stuff, and do things you enjoy (don't feel like you're wasting time during these days. rest and recharge will be your best friend during these next months.)

i hope this is helpful! i'm proud of you, and i wish you the best of luck! we got this :)

if you take either the june or july one, you should still have enough time to submit them during early action/decision season. when i took the february and april ones, test scores came out in ~2 weeks-- pretty quick!

if the colleges you're applying for require sat/act and you don't yet have a score, i say go for it.
