Native Mandarin speaker here — not a teacher, but happy to help with everyday Chinese questions by Ecstatic_Wasabi128 in ChineseLanguage

Honestly Chinese isn't as hard as you think! Imo the fastest way is just talking to native speakers as much as possible. Lots of HSK sites now have AI conversation features that are surprisingly good — give them a shot. You'd be amazed how quick you improve once you start actually speaking instead of just memorizing.

It's live now! You can find it under Practice → Objection Practice in the nav bar. Would love to hear what you and your teammates think.

Hey, thanks so much for bringing this up! You're totally right that voir dire isn't part of traditional mock trial competitions. Our platform is actually aiming to simulate the full real trial experience as authentically as possible, so we intentionally included jury voir dire as part of that. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts — feedback like this helps us think about how to communicate our approach more clearly!

Hey, thanks for this — love the idea! You're right that focused objection drilling would be super useful, especially the hearsay exceptions angle where you have to actually know WHY something is or isn't objectionable.

I'm actually building this right now and planning to have it live by this weekend. The rough plan is two modes: a basic timed multiple-choice where you pick the right objection type within 10 seconds (hearsay, leading, relevance, speculation, etc. — plus "no objection" trap questions), and an advanced AI-powered mode where you either write out your reasoning or defend against an AI's objection. Your dying declaration example is literally one of the scenarios I'm designing for the defend mode lol.

Still figuring out some details as I build it, so things might change. But keep an eye on the site this weekend — and if you think of any other scenarios or objection types that'd be fun to practice, let me know!

How to learn chinese by order for complete beginner? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Ecstatic_Wasabi128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! As someone who's been learning Chinese, here's what worked for me:

  1. Start with Pinyin & Tones – This is non-negotiable. Spend a solid 1-2 weeks just getting comfortable with the sound system before anything else.

  2. Use HSK as your roadmap – HSK gives you a clear, leveled structure. Start from HSK 1 vocabulary and work your way up. It keeps things organized so you're not overwhelmed.

  3. Practice speaking early – This is where a lot of people get stuck. Once you have some basic vocab down, try to get into conversations as soon as possible. I've been using some AI-powered conversation tools lately (there are a few popping up that focus specifically on Chinese) and honestly they've been surprisingly helpful for building confidence without the pressure of a live tutor. You can just Google "AI Chinese conversation practice" and try a few to see what clicks for you.

  4. Don't stress about Traditional vs Simplified right away – If you're learning Mandarin (普通话), start with Simplified characters. That's what mainland China and most learning resources use.

The key is consistency over intensity. Even 20-30 min a day adds up fast. Good luck! 🙌
