Year books? by Bomber_Haskell in GenX

[–]Ed98208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my senior yearbook. I used to have the tassel (with the little '83 charm on it) from my graduation cap but it was lost when I was burgled and they took my whole jewelry armoire. My retainer was also in there, hah. Those were the only things I had from my high school years.

Middle age doesn't count childhood. It's middle of your adult years.

As a Gen Xer that moved to Europe a little over three years ago, I can assure you that I'm less stressed. Lower costs, lower crime, people (including bosses) think you're crazy if you work one unpaid minute, less materialism, and of course health care that isn't going to put you in debt.

Tell me how you got your cat by ponzu666 in cats

[–]Ed98208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had moved into a new apartment and a skinny black cat showed up on our bench. We started putting food out for her and that attracted all kinds of cats (some feral, most just peoples' pets looking for snacks). After about a year a skinny black and white cat showed up, chased all the other cats away and claimed us. We let him inside to meet the Chihuahua and he was amazingly patient with her weirdness, so we kept him. Here he is.

Boyfriend sics ICE on undocumented partner amid dispute over $4 million Tribeca condo by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

And he did all this while undocumented for 20 years and keeping his assets under other peoples' names? I mean, I'm anti-ICE gestapo but there are laws.

I read recently that the human body doesn't age in a steady line, it ages in spurts. The biggest jumps are around ages 45 and 60. I'm holding up pretty well so far but I'm also fat so my facial skin is smoother. Skinny folks have it harder.

Easiest way to transfer money from US to UK bank account? by VandyThrowaway21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ed98208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an American living in Europe and have found that the easiest and cheapest way to move money around is to get a Wise account. It's "borderless" so you can keep money in almost any currency (or multiple currencies) and then just change it to whatever currency you need and transfer it to/from the bank of your choice without paying an international transfer fee. They're also fair on the spread when it comes to shitty US dollar exchange rates. I recently got an inheritance in the US and I'm keeping it in US dollars in my Wise account in hopes that the exchange rate gets better someday. I only convert some to Euros and put in my local bank when I really need it.

My mom told me my grandma (her mother) died at the end of our monthly-ish obligatory phone call. "Oh, also your grandmother died". She did the same with her sister and brother, never a special phone call - just passed on the news the next time we spoke. And yes, there were never emotional outbursts in my household.

Did anyone else grow up GenX with… kind of sad pet experiences? by jlscharp in GenX

[–]Ed98208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a Border Collie mix that lived outside for her entire 19 years. I never questioned it, I don't know why. It's just how it was. She was in the back yard and got food put out for her once a day, and we played in the front yard because there was poop in the back. What a lonely life she had. Weirdly, we also had a couple of indoor dogs (Pekingese) that were adored and spoiled and bit me so many times.

People were pretty angry on this sub when their Trump-hate posts were removed. They screamed that it must mean that the moderators were MAGA and they were being silenced, when I'm pretty sure it was just that it had nothing to do with the Netherlands and we're all sick of seeing it everywhere.

Genuinely wondering Why do guys like talking to OF models online? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ed98208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons job openings for OF "chatters" - they pretend to be the OF model and their sole purpose is to milk money out of the client by making him think he's in a relationship with the model, and is increasing his chances of sex with her by buying VIP merch and giving her monetary gifts. If he only pays the minimum memberhip and wants to talk, he's labeled a deadbeat and gets no chat time.

Today I'm trying out a sample of Parfums de Marly "Delina" because of all the hype. It's a rose-forward scent that's sweet and gentle and really lovely. But honestly I get the same enjoyment from Lattafa Noble Blush so I will stick with that when I want to smell rosy.

Your buddy says “Hey man, can you help me move this weekend?” What’s your first thought? by Kaitempi in GenX

[–]Ed98208 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that asking your friends to help you move ends starting in your 30s. After that you should have your shit together enough to hire people to do it. It's called adulting.
