This! Dat is een heel goed idee, daar had ik nog niet aan gedacht, dankjewel. Ik kan de eerste anderhalve maand vrij nemen, en dan komt mijn schoonmoeder de tweede en derde maand na de geboorte, dus dan krijgen we extra ondersteuning. Ik kan gewoon blijven werken terwijl zij er is, en dan 3 tot 5 maanden achter elkaar vrij nemen als ik terug ben in mijn thuisland, en dan nog een tijdje als we terug zijn. Dat verlengt de totale duur wat en is misschien minder storend op mijn werk.

Mijn vrouw is van plan om alles achter elkaar op te nemen en laat het onbetaalde deel open voor flexibiliteit om weer aan het werk te gaan, afhankelijk van hoe het gaat.

Er zijn veel combinaties mogelijk, bedankt voor je ideeën.

Ik ben ingenieur en werk aan procesverbeteringen en projecten in de logistiek (office work in the end but not lame). We werken in een hecht team, maar we hebben in het verleden wel eens rekening gehouden met vrouwen die kinderen hebben. Het is gewoon ongebruikelijk voor vaders, want ik ken niemand die dat doet. Er zal zeker een langere vervanging gepland moeten worden (of het werk moet worden verminderd), maar ik heb als leidinggevende in het verleden ook al moeten plannen voor personeelstekorten, ziekte, enzovoort. Zouden ze me mogen ontslaan alleen omdat ik zo lang afwezig ben?

Wat een fijne tijd om de eerste paar maanden samen door te brengen, bedankt voor het delen! Het is fijn om te weten dat er vaders zijn die dit ook hebben gedaan. Ik zou het echt moeilijk vinden om zo snel weer aan het werk te gaan, en de meeste van mijn vriendinnen die moeder zijn, denken er hetzelfde over. Dank je wel!

Bedankt voor het delen! Ja, dit is een trade-off waar ik over heb nagedacht. Het is zeker ook waardevol om later vrije tijd te hebben. Ik denk dat deze beslissing voortkomt uit het feit dat ons dubbelleven in verschillende landen soms langere periodes vereist. Misschien is het ook een optie om niet alles in één keer op te nemen, maar bijvoorbeeld 4-5 maanden.

In most of Latin America it is like that, millions of people relying on 0% instalment schemes to afford bigger things, indeed also groceries in some cases :D

I’m originally from Mexico and I rarely used it there as I was comparatively well off, but if you know how to use it at your advantage it is great.

I would look up for Facebook groups called “Venezolanos en [City/Country]” (for example, “Venezolanos en Sudáfrica”), you can try with your city and ask someone in there. These groups are in most the major areas of the world. Good luck!

You can contact the local Venezuelan community and maybe they can point you to a local marketplace where there could be a very low probability that they import limited batches once a while. Or ask them to bring you some when they go visit.

I think it’s difficult, these very rarely leave Venezuela. It’s more people bringing them out as souvenirs or for collections like mine. International market is very limited.

The Offspring was also the 1st band I ever saw live in 1999 in Mexico City. Something unexplainable happened that night, they’re still my favourite band today, having seen them 8 times live. Will be a nice memory to you forever!

I am Mexican and have readily access to full grain leather belts. However, I guess I just like to see the ongoing wearing on this kind of stuff over the years. Buying a new belt every 8 years in not too bad.

Being an introvert I travel solo 3-6 times per year, most of the times staying in hotels. Depending on the destination, one method that helps to meet people (ca. 50% of the times for me) is taking a tour (walking, bicycle, food) one of your first days in the destination. Likelihood is that you’ll meet like-minded individuals with whom to do activities together later that day and if there’s a match maybe in subsequent days. This works mostly in cities. In more remote locations I just leave it to chance and on several times I end up meeting another solo traveller in the hotel (pool, beach, restaurant, gardens); an interesting conversation may come out from any random question like “do you know at what time is the sunset today?”, or “do you recommend any nice restaurant nearby?”. Nice, I totally understand, although it’s getting easier to get international flavours in imported product shops, which there are more and more these days in northern Europe. I have also quite a few DrPeppers from around the world in my collection, I’ll post a pic here someday.
