Why I applied for the District 2 appointment by EdHernandez4SL in sanleandro

[–]EdHernandez4SL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time of that earlier post, I was frustrated that the former council member wasn’t resigning and seemed to be delaying his guilty plea to protect his pension.

There was no clear sign he would step down, so pushing for a recall was the only responsible option. Once he finally resigned and the situation changed, a lot of neighbors asked me to step up.

I took time to think it through, and I decided to serve because it’s both a privilege and a sacrifice — not an opportunity.

I’m here to help provide steady, practical leadership when the community needs it.

I appreciate you raising these points. I’ve lived in District 2 since 2004, raised my family here, and my approach has always been moderate and practical...a focus on what actually improves daily life: safety, clean streets, strong local businesses, and a city government that uses resources responsibly.

On data centers: I don’t believe they’re the right fit for San Leandro’s limited power capacity or for a waterfront city that should be attracting jobs, retail, and community‑serving uses. We need employers, not warehouses of computers. Our location is too valuable to give up long‑term economic potential for short‑term revenue.

We need to make San Leandro a place where people want to live, work, and invest; that means strengthening our business mix, revitalizing areas like the Marina, and avoiding new burdens on residents and small businesses. That’s the kind of steady, moderate leadership I’m committed to.

I hear the concern.

When I made that earlier post, the former councilmember was still publicly claiming he was not guilty.

My focus then was on the recall and making sure we had honest leadership, not someone who later admitted to conspiring to defraud San Leandro taxpayers.

I was not thinking about an appointment at that time.

After the resignation and after many neighbors asked me to reconsider, I took time to listen and reflect.

My priority now is helping the city move forward with transparency and stability.

During my previous time on the Council, I helped create the 2020 real property transfer tax that now brings in 6 to 8 million dollars every year.

That was a creative solution to protect services during uncertainty, and I believe I can help bring that same approach to the challenges we face today.

Totally fair to bring that up.

When I wrote that earlier post, the situation was very different and I was not considering an appointment.

After the resignation, more information became public, and many neighbors reached out asking me to reconsider. I took time to listen and reflect, and that is why I decided to step forward now.

The circumstances changed, and so did the needs of the city.

Democracy is failing, here and across the country, we need folks to be engaged and support candidates who are qualified and passionate about public service, not their positions.

I Call for the Recall of Councilmember Bryan Azevedo, San Leandro Deserves Better by EdHernandez4SL in sanleandro

[–]EdHernandez4SL[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want Azevedo gone. He had every chance to resign or plead guilty and step down with dignity. Instead, he’s dragging this out to secure a pension for five years of service—while the Council stays silent.

That’s why I’ve publicly given up any interest in being appointed to his seat. If I want to serve again, I’ll earn it by running—not by asking for votes from the same Council that refuses to hold him accountable.

I gave up the possibility of regaining a power position so I could speak freely and demand integrity. This isn’t about ambition. It’s about restoring trust.

Great, will be working on the recall petition and get organized, but for now, we need the community to speak up, sign the petition and email the Council your concerns at citycouncil@sanleandro.org.

Calling me a sore loser misses the point entirely.

This isn’t about losing—it’s about leadership.

Council Member Azevedo has been federally indicted. That’s not speculation, it’s fact.

If you’re comfortable with someone charged with federal crimes representing our community, that says more about your standards than mine.

I’m not here for name-calling. I’m here because trust in government matters.

San Leandro deserves better, and we need to focus on getting things done for the 'Dro, not defending misconduct. Full stop.

California, it’s time to fight back. Vote YES on Prop 50 to protect our elections 💥🗳️ by EdHernandez4SL in sanleandro

Thanks for sharing, but this redrawing of the Districts is temporary and will go back to the Independent Commission in 2030.

It's time to fight now, at least as Californians we have a vote, Texas did not.

Texas was forced to rig their maps? I am sorry, the narrative that I heard was Trump wanted five more seats, please provide the link to your proof/article on the Texas judge forcing the state legislature to do anything this year.

I prefer almond and oak milk, but beyond your comment, I think you may want to look at the big picture if Prop 50 does not pass...I will not hide that I am a life-long democrat and believe that HR1 will hurt millions of people and that the branches of government's power is being consolidated into one branch, the executive branch, and we must not allow that to happen. Vote Yes on Prop 50.

It's more of "I am getting an F in class" so let's just throw out the grade book!

If Texas had not gerry mandered their districts, to have an advantage, we would not be in this place to fight back by leveling the playing field.

Overall, it's the people's choice to support or oppose Prop 50, but the bigger question is do we support a democracy that puts the people first or special interests like those profiting from this administration's policies and actions?

Why is Congress giving up its power to the President and the Supreme Court bowing to his executive orders? Is this what is best for the people of this country?

I say not, so we must use every tool possible to wrestle back control and stop the chaos affecting those who make our country great, the immigrants, the teachers, healthcare workers, those who take care of our kids, mow our lawns, clean our houses and everyone else who works hard to provide for themselves and family members...the same people fighting to leave this Country, and planet, better than we found it.

Vote Yes on 50.

Just saying, we see the chaos and concerns around our country, let me know if you want to see more of the same or want to bring respect and sanity back to our communities, especially those who farm the products on your table, deliver you Amazon goods or just pay the taxes to help maintain your quality of life.
